College atheist group plans massive anti-Mother Teresa demonstration

A Dartmouth College atheist group is planning an event aimed at denouncing and vilifying the work of the late Mother Teresa. The Atheists Humanists Agnostics club sent out an e-mail announcing the program next week. The group promises a "full-out romp against why one of the most beloved people of the century, Mother Teresa, is as Hitchens put it . 'a lying, thieving Albanian dwarf.'"

The group claims that Teresa, on her way to sainthood in the Catholic church, 'was not a friend of the poor,' but 'was a friend of poverty.'

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Mother Teresa has long been one of the most unassailable figures of the 20th Century, who selflessly dedicated her life to helping the poor in India.

The group plans to screen an anti-Mother Teresa film, discuss Hitchens' book, "Missionary Position: Mother Teresa in Theory and Practice," and question how the public has been "conned into thinking this woman [Teresa] was good."

The group claims that Teresa, on her way to sainthood in the Catholic church, "was not a friend of the poor," but "was a friend of poverty."

An infamous article by the late atheist crusader Christopher Hitchens attempted to tear down the legends that surround Teresa. The event has ignited controversy on the Ivy League campus. Students have told Campus Reform that they were upset AHA was hosting such an event.

"It's easy for a group of privileged Ivy League students who have never experienced poverty to meet in a 'super secret room' and think themselves as intellectuals by bashing Mother Teresa," Melanie Wilcox, Executive Editor of the conservative Dartmouth Review says.

With cold and flu season approaching, we start hearing more and more about the flu vaccine. What we do not hear about are the potential hazards ingredients of the vaccine can cause.

CINCINNATI — One of Cincinnati’s largest employers fired approximately 150 employees Wednesday for failing to get a required flu shot.

TriHealth offered all of its 10,800 employees free flu shots. Employees had a month to get the flu shot. The deadline was Nov. 16. Employees who did not get the shot were terminated Wednesday, a company spokesperson said.

Employees who were terminated can appeal to be reinstated after receiving the shot.

Pacific Health Center reports the flu shots have two and a half times the formaldehyde as the level listed as “an immediate danger to life and health” by the National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health. They also report that aluminum, which is also in the flu shot in trace amounts, accelerate the activation of the immune system. But once the immune system is “turned on,” there’s no switch to turn it off. Long-term side effects of this are unknown.

Flu vaccine — Healthy prevention or harmful chemicals?

With cold and flu season approaching, we start hearing more and more about the flu vaccine. What we do not hear about are the potential hazards ingredients of the vaccine can cause.

According to the Center for Disease Control, the number one recommended vaccine for 2012 is Fluarix. The ingredients in Fluarix are sodium deoxycholate, formaldehyde, octoxynol-10, α-tocopheryl hydrogen succinate, polysorbate 80, hydrocortisone, gentamicin sulfate, and ovalbumin.

Sodium Deoxycholate – Pierce Protein Biology Products says this is a water-soluble, bile-acid, ionic detergent commonly used in protein methods.

Formaldehyde – The National Cancer Institute describes formaldehyde as a colorless, flammable, strong-smelling chemical that is used in building materials and to produce many household products.

In 1987, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) classified formaldehyde as a probable human carcinogen. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified formaldehyde as a human carcinogen . In 2011, the National Toxicology Program 12th Report on Carcingoens said formaldehyde is a known human carcinogen.

Octoxynol-10 – According to CosmeticsInfo.org this ingredient has been reviewed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is approved for use as indirect food additives as components of adhesives, and paper and paperboard in contact with food.

A-tocopheryl hydrogen succinate - Merck Millipore classifies this ingredient as vitamin E.

Polysorbate 80 – A Pub-Med article says Polysorbate 80 is a ubiquitously used solubilizing agent that can cause severe nonimmunologic anaphylactoid reactions.

Hydrocortisone - WebMD says "Use this medication on the skin only. Avoid getting this medication in the eyes, nose, or mouth. If you get the medication in these areas, rinse with plenty of water."

The NSF says if hydrocortisone is ingested to seek medical attention immediately and that it poses a danger of serious health damage if swallowed.

An individual is not swallowing hydrocortisone when they receive a flu shot, but the chemical is being injected directly into the body so it can be carried throughout the blood stream.

Gentamicin sulfate - Free Medical Dictionary says this is a broad-spectrum antibiotic derived from an actinomycete used in the treatment of various infections. Serious adverse effects are nephrotoxicity, auditory or vestibular ototoxicity, impairment of neuromuscular transmission, and hypersensitivity reactions. Neuromuscular blockade and respiratory paralysis have occurred after administration.

Ovalbumin – Biology Online calls this ingredient a water-soluble albumin which is the primary component of the egg white (about 60-65% of the total protein).

According to Vaccination Information Service mercury is also present in trace amounts as a preservative in the flu vaccine. Mercury is the second most poisonous element known to man and studies have shown that neurons begin to disintegrate in its presence. It has also been found to cause changes to chromosomes. Once it is ingested, injected, or inhaled, it stays within the body and accumulates. Some of the most serious side effects of mercury are liver disorders, injury to the cardiovascular system and hematopoietic system, deafness and ataxia. This University of Calgary video shows how mercury affects the brain.

Often times we hear doctors, pharmacist and public health officials recommend that children and the elderly receive a flu shot.

An article in Eco Child's Play reports that Donald Miller, MD, a cardiac surgeon and Professor of Surgery at the University of Washington, recommends taking vitamin D instead of getting a flu shot. He also says 70 percent of doctors do not get a flu shot.

The article goes on to say that health officials say 5–20 percent of the population contract the flu each year. Approximately 200,000 people require hospitalization and 36,000 people die from the flu. The CDC's National Vital Statistics Reports shows that only 1,138 deaths a year occur due to the flu alone. More than 34,000 of the “36,000″ flu deaths are “influenza-associated” pneumonic and cardiovascular deaths. In other words, people had other pre-existing health conditions which were made more serious by flu.

There is also a lack of evidence that young children benefit from flu shots. A systematic review of 51 studies involving 260,000 children age 6 to 23 months found no evidence that the flu vaccine is any more effective than a placebo according to a PubMed report.

The American College of Health Sciences says that vitamin D may help prevent the flu because it plays a critical role in allowing the immune system to successfully defeat viruses of all kinds. It also says Elderberry syrup has been shown by many scientific studies to fight standard strains of influenza. Dr. Oz concurs, saying elderberry extract is very effective at blocking a virus' ability to enter the body.

Since the majority of deaths associated with the flu occur in people who have other serious health issues, it may be wise for the elderly to receive the flu shot. However, those that are otherwise relatively healthy, it may be more prudent to avoid the flu shot and look at more natural and less toxic alternatives.

Nov. 24--A team of scientists can verify that their 5-year long DNA study, currently under peer-review, confirms the existence of a novel hominin hybrid species, commonly called “Bigfoot” or “Sasquatch,” living in North America. Researchers’ extensive DNA sequencing suggests that the legendary Sasquatch is a human relative that arose approximately 15,000 years ago as a hybrid cross of modern Homo sapiens with an unknown primate species.

The study was conducted by a team of experts in genetics, forensics, imaging and
pathology, led by Dr. Melba S. Ketchum of Nacogdoches, TX. In response to recent
interest in the study, Dr. Ketchum can confirm that her team has sequenced 3 complete Sasquatch nuclear genomes and determined the species is a human hybrid:

“Our study has sequenced 20 whole mitochondrial genomes and utilized next generation
sequencing to obtain 3 whole nuclear genomes from purported Sasquatch samples.
The genome sequencing shows that Sasquatch mtDNA is identical to modern Homo sapiens, but Sasquatch nuDNA is a novel, unknown hominin related to Homo sapiens and other primate species. Our data indicate that the North American Sasquatch is a hybrid species, the result of males of an unknown hominin species crossing with female Homo sapiens.
Hominins are members of the taxonomic grouping Hominini, which includes all members of the genus Homo. Genetic testing has already ruled out Homo neanderthalis and the Denisova hominin as contributors to Sasquatch mtDNA or nuDNA. “The male progenitor that contributed the unknown sequence to this hybrid is unique as its DNA is more distantly removed from humans than other recently discovered hominins like the Denisovan individual,” explains Ketchum.

“Sasquatch nuclear DNA is incredibly novel and not at all what we had expected. While it
has human nuclear DNA within its genome, there are also distinctly non-human, non-archaic hominin, and non-ape sequences. We describe it as a mosaic of human and novel non-human sequence. Further study is needed and is ongoing to better characterize and understand Sasquatch nuclear DNA.”

Ketchum is a veterinarian whose professional experience includes 27 years of research in
genetics, including forensics. Early in her career she also practiced veterinary medicine, and she has previously been published as a participant in mapping the equine genome. She began testing the DNA of purported Sasquatch hair samples 5 years ago

Ketchum calls on public officials and law enforcement to immediately recognize the
Sasquatch as an indigenous people:

“Genetically, the Sasquatch are a human hybrid with unambiguously modern human maternal ancestry. Government at all levels must recognize them as an indigenous people
and immediately protect their human and Constitutional rights against those who would see in their physical and cultural differences a ‘license’ to hunt, trap, or kill them.”

One Third of Schools Receiving Stimulus-Funded 'Student Improvement Grants' Showed Declines!

Three years ago, Education Secretary Arne Duncan announced that the Obama administration would spend $3.5 billion -- including $3 billion in stimulus funding -- on Student Improvement Grants. The money, he said, would "support the transformational changes that are needed to turn around the nation's lowest-achieving schools."

Now, after the Obama administration spent up to $2 million per school at more than 1,300 of the nation's lowest-performing schools, the data shows that one third of schools receiving SIG funding had declines in achievement -- a "not surprising finding," the Education Department said, "given the steep institutional challenges that these schools face."

“There’s dramatic change happening in these schools, and in the long-term process of turning around the nation’s lowest-performing schools, one year of test scores only tells a small piece of the story,” Duncan said on in a Nov. 19 news release.

But the Education Department says in three main areas, there are signs of "positive momentum" and progress:

The first year of data (beginning in the 2009-2010 school year and ending in the 2010-2011 school year) shows the following:

“There are ways that a very few number of actors with very rudimentary equipment could take down large portions of our grid,” FERC Chairman Jon Wellinghoff said today at a Bloomberg Government breakfast in Washington. “I don’t think we have the level of physical security we need.”

The number of appeals to the Association of Rape Crisis Centers in Israel rose 16% over the same period.

Among the 19 women killed in the past year, 13 belonged to minority populations: six were Ethiopian immigrants, four were Arab women, one was an immigrant from the former Soviet Union, one was a foreign worker from the Philippines and one was an illegal migrant from Eritrea.

According to the WIZO report, approximately 10,600 women requested police protection from violent husbands in 2011. Some 18,000 women appealed to the Association of Rape Crisis Centers in the first half of 2012 alone, 65% of which involved sexual assault against minors.

As part of Israel’s observance of the international day, a conference organized by WIZO on Sunday discussed the implementation of a law to prevent domestic violence and asked whether the police protection requested by women victimized by family violence does in fact serve them adequately.

Israel may strike at ship allegedly carrying Iranian rockets to Gaza – report

Israel has reportedly vowed to destroy rockets and other weapons being sent to Gaza by Iran. Tel Aviv issued this threat despite a recent ceasefire following eight days of bitter conflict between Gaza and Israel.

Israeli spy satellites spotted a cargo vessel in the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas that was allegedly Gaza-bound and carrying arms, the Sunday Times reported.

“Regardless of the ceasefire agreement, we will attack and destroy any shipment of arms to Gaza once we have spotted it,” an Israeli defense official told the newspaper.

The vessel reportedly began its voyage last week just as Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire ending eight days of violence in Gaza, in which over 150 Palestinians died. The cargo is believed to include Fajr-5 rockets, similar to those used by Hamas in the conflict, and Shahab-3 ballistic missiles.

The ship is set to travel through the Red Sea, Sudan and Egypt, according to the Sunday Times report. The newspaper also cited Israeli officials speculating that Iran could be moving longer-range ballistic missiles into Sudan, which could be aimed at Israel from the African country.

The Sunday Times’ report comes a day after the Hamas leadership announced they aren’t ready to stop arming themselves, despite the recently-agreed truce and ceasefire.

More than 800 homes flooded as storms hit UK

More than 800 homes have been flooded after storms hit parts of England and Wales, the Environment Agency has said.

It confirmed that 816 houses have been affected after a band of heavy rain and strong winds swept across the country.

Devon and Cornwall are badly hit, along with Malmesbury in Wiltshire and Kempsey in Worcestershire.

Two people have died in the storm - a woman killed by a falling tree in Exeter and a man whose car crashed into a swollen river in Cambridgeshire.

There are more than 220 flood warnings in place across England, which means people should take action because flooding is expected.

Of these, about 58 are in the South West and around 119 in the Midlands.

The Environment Agency has also issued more than 270 flood alerts - indicating people should prepare for possible flooding.

According to its website there is still a medium risk of flooding on Monday in North Yorkshire, Hartlepool and Middlesbrough and in Devon.

The BBC Weather Centre said further heavy rain is expected to affect Wales and south-western parts of England during Sunday afternoon and evening.

Dhaka Bangladesh clothes factory fire kills more than 100

Firefighters took several hours to bring the fire under control

More than 100 people are now known to have died in a fire that swept through a clothes factory in Bangladesh, local officials say.

The blaze broke out late on Saturday in the multi-floor Tazreen Fashion factory in the Ashulia district on the outskirts of the capital Dhaka.

Some people died after jumping from the building to escape the flames.

It is unclear what caused the fire, which started on the ground floor trapping many victims in the factory.

Officials suspect an electrical short circuit might have caused the disaster.

Firefighters managed to contain the blaze on Sunday morning.

Fatal fires are common in Bangladesh's large garment manufacturing sector, and the BBC's Anbarasan Ethirajan in Dhaka says Western companies are likely to renew pressure on the local businesses to improve safety.

In a separate development, at least 13 people died when a flyover under construction collapsed late on Saturday in the south-eastern city of Chittagong, police said.

The authorities are investigating both accidents.

Suicide bombers have attacked a church inside a military barracks in Kaduna state in northern Nigeria, killing 11 people and injuring 30, officials say.

A military spokesman told the BBC two vehicles were driven into the barracks in Jaji in what he described as "surprising and an embarrassment".

It is not clear who was responsible for the attack.

But the army suspects Islamist militant group Boko Haram, which has recently targeted churches in the state.

The group is fighting to overthrow the government and impose an extreme form of Sharia, or Islamic law.

The BBC's Will Ross in Lagos says that while Christians and churches are frequently targeted, this incident looks more like a direct attack on the military.

On Friday, Nigeria's military offered a reward of 50m naira ($317,000; £197,709) for help in tracking down suspected Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, and 10m each for other suspected leaders of the group.

The Bible Tells Us When A Fetus Becomes A Living Being

Many people think that a human being is created at the time of conception but this belief is not supported by the bible. The fact that a living sperm penetrates a living ovum resulting in the formation of a living fetus does not mean that the fetus is a living human being. According to the bible, a fetus is not a living person with a soul until after drawing its first breath.

After God formed man in Genesis 2:7, He “breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and it was then that the man became a living being”. Although the man was fully formed by God in all respects, he was not a living being until after taking his first breath.

In Job 33:4, it states: “The spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.”

Again, to quote Ezekiel 37:5&6, “Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. And I will lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live; and you shall know that I am the Lord.”

In Exodus 21:22 it states that if a man causes a woman to have a miscarriage, he shall be fined; however, if the woman dies then he will be put to death. It should be apparent from this that the aborted fetus is not considered a living human being since the resulting punishment for the abortion is nothing more than a fine; it is not classified by the bible as a capital offense.

According to the bible, destroying a living fetus does not equate to killing a living human being even though the fetus has the potential of becoming a human being. One can not kill something that has not been born and taken a breath. This means that a stillborn would not be considered a human being either. Of course, every living sperm has the potential of becoming a human being although not one in a million will make it; the rest are aborted. .

God has decreed, for one reason or another, that at least one-third of all pregnancies shall be terminated by a spontaneous abortion during the first trimester of pregnancy and that a number will be terminated after the first trimester. It would appear that God does not have any more regard for the loss of a fetus than he does for the loss of a placenta or a foreskin despite the fact that these were living tissue as the result of conception.

In a number of versions of the bible, one of the commandments in Exodus 20 that was spoken by God to Moses states: “You shall not kill”. According to the Mosaic text, this should read “You shall not murder” since the bible has commandments stating that people shall be put to death for a number of different offenses. Exodus 21:17 states: “Whoever curses his father or mother shall be put to death.” There are other capital offenses in Exodus 21. Of course, the commandment “You shall not kill” is not present in the commandments written by God on the stone tablets. For those who are not familiar with the commandments on the stone tablets that were placed in the Ark of the Covenant, they are enumerated in Exodus 34. The popular ten commandments that are enumerated in Exodus 20 were spoken by God to Moses who then relayed them to his people; they were never written.

There is nothing in the bible to indicate that a fetus is considered to be anything other than living tissue and, according to scripture, it does not become a living being until after it has taken a breath.

Many cite the scripture Jeremiah 1:5, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." God is omnipotent. He has known all of us since before creation. This scripture is irrelevant as it pertains to when a fetus becomes a living being. The same reasoning applies to Psalm 139:13-14.

Numbers 5 describes "the Lord" ordering an abortion. Many argue that this is a misinterpretation. It's clearly stated in verse 22, "May this water that brings a curse enter your body so that your abdomen swells or your wombmiscarries."

European Parliament warns against UN internet control

The UN should not be allowed to take over control of the internet, Euro MPs have warned.

International governments are set to agree a new information and communications treaty next month.

Reports in the Russian press have suggested the Kremlin and others wanted control of key internet systems passed to a UN agency.

Internet control currently lies largely with US-based groups such as Icann, which regulates the web address system.

Government to get new software to spy on social media conversations!

THE Australian government is developing new software to monitor citizens' social media conversations.

The purpose of one tool, called Emergency Situational Awareness (ESA), is to give emergency services early warning about disasters.

It's taken the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) three years to develop and is being trialled by the Defence Department, the Queensland government and Geoscience Australia.

ESA works by mining publicly available Twitter profiles to detect clusters of tweeted words such as "fire", "earthquake" or "storm", and then passing that information to emergency authorities.

In August, the technology helped detect a grass fire near Cloncurry Hospital, in outback Queensland, before any triple zero calls were received.

Denied the right to travel without consent from their male guardians and banned from driving, women in Saudi Arabia are now monitored by an electronic system that tracks any cross-border movements.

Since last week, Saudi women’s male guardians began receiving text messages on their phones informing them when women under their custody leave the country, even if they are travelling together. ...

“The authorities are using technology to monitor women,” said columnist Badriya al-Bishr, who criticised the “state of slavery under which women are held” in the ultra-conservative kingdom. Women are not allowed to leave the kingdom without permission from their male guardian, who must give his consent by signing what is known as the “yellow sheet” at the airport or border.

Monsanto insurance: USDA tells farmers to pay for avoiding troubles with agro-giant

The United State Department of Agriculture has finalized a report to address concerns from farmers who fear they’ll be next on an ever-expanding list of defendants sued by biotech giants Monsanto, but those worries aren’t about to end.

The Monsanto Company dominates more than just grow fields across the US, as evident in their stellar track record of taking small-time farmers to court and winning cases, an occurrence that Think Progress acknowledges happens roughly a dozen times a year. Time and time again, Monsanto’s patented, lab-made genetically engineered seeds are sold to one farmer, only for Mother Nature to move the crop onto neighboring fields with the help of a bit of wind. Just as often, of course, Monsanto’s team of high-paid litigators take the little guys to court, only to triumph thanks to a legal counsel that collects around $10 million a year just to take other farmers to court.

With Monsanto-led lawsuits all too common, the USDA was tasked with putting together a panel — the Advisory Committee on Biotechnology and 21st Century Agriculture, or AC21 — to analyze, among other items, “What types of compensation mechanisms, if any, would be appropriate to address economic losses1 by farmers in which the value of their crops is reduced by unintended presence of genetically engineered(GE) material(s)?”

Argentina ordered to pay $1.3bn by US court, fears of default

A New York Federal court has ordered Argentina to immediately pay $1.3bn to foreign creditors holding bonds that it defaulted on in 2001, but has refused to pay up till now.

“It is hardly an injustice to have legal rulings which, at long last, mean that Argentina must pay the debts which it owes,” Judge Thomas P. Griesa of Federal District Court concluded. “After 10 years of litigation, this is a just result.”
Argentinean President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner criticized the judgment and said her government would not pay a single dollar. Economy Minister Hernan Lorenzino also opposed the decision and called it "judicial colonialism".

The decision bars Argentina from making a coming $3 billion payment to investors who own restructured bonds, and puts the country on the risk of a new default. If Argentina does not fully meet its payments in December, the exchange creditors could demand immediate payment on the entire $24 billion of debt issued in 2005 and 2010, experts say. The judge also restricted Argentina from paying other debts until it pays off the $1.3bn due on December 15.

Egypt's Constitutional Court is reportedly considering the possibility of impeaching President Mohamed Morsi for violating his oath and undermining the country's constitutional foundations.

According to a representative of the court, “the judges are prepared to exercise the right to shift the head of state after he flouted the laws and constitution,” local media reports.

On Thursday, Morsi made several decrees affecting the country’s constitution that, he said, would safeguard Egypt's “revolutionary” future. One of the decrees suggests that no laws or declarations passed by the president from the time of his inauguration until a new parliament is elected can be overturned by any authority, including the judiciary.

An upcoming UN-organized conference on global communications aims to hammer out a treaty to safeguard "the free flow of information around the world.” Google is fighting back, saying the treaty threatens the “free and open Internet.”

Representatives from UN member-states will gather in Dubai from December 3 through 14 with the explicit aim of working out a new universal information and communication treaty that would regulate the Internet.

The conference, organized by the UN’s International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) has reignited a fierce debate over who should control the Web.

Commander: Iran missile technology sent to Gaza

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran has supplied Hamas in Gaza with the technology to "quickly" produce longer-range missiles on their own without needing direct shipments, said a report Wednesday that quoted the head of Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guard.

The comments by Gen. Mohammad Ali Jafari offer some of the clearest insights on Iran's weapons support for Hamas, whose Iranian-engineered Fajr-5 missiles have struck near Tel Aviv and Jerusalem during weeklong battles with Israel.

"Gaza is under siege, so we cannot help them. The Fajr-5 missiles have not been shipped from Iran. Its technology has been transferred and (the missiles are) being produced quickly," Jafari was quoted as saying by the semiofficial ISNA news agency.

Less than a week after the conclusion of Operation Pillar of Defense, and with Hamas boasting of an imminent increase in military aid from Iran, Israeli satellites have spotted a ship at the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas being loaded with rockets and other military supplies ostensibly bound for Gaza, the British Sunday Times has reported.

The report cites Israeli intelligence sources who surmised that the cargo would be shipped to Sudan and from there smuggled over land to Gaza.

Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi has issued constitutional amendments, granting himself far-reaching powers.

EGYPT'S Islamist President Mohamed Morsi has assumed sweeping powers, drawing criticism he is seeking to be a "new pharaoh" and raising questions about the gains of last year's uprising to oust Hosni Mubarak.

The move is a blow to the pro-democracy movement that toppled the long-time president, himself derided by many as a pharoah, and raises concerns that Islamists will be further ensconced in power.

"The president can issue any decision or measure to protect the revolution," according to a decree read out on television by presidential spokesman Yasser Ali.

"The constitutional declarations, decisions and laws issued by the president are final and not subject to appeal."
