Putin Meets with Jordanian King Abdullah II

End Of Days News

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Jordan’s King Abdullah II

NOVO-OGARYOVO, February 20 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and Jordan’s King Abdullah II met in Moscow on Tuesday to discuss bilateral cooperation in the trade, economic, military technology, investment, energy and humanitarian sectors, the Kremlin reported.

According to earlier reports, the two leaders were supposed to discuss in particular the proposed Russian participation in a project to build Jordan's first nuclear power plant (NPP), but it was unclear from a statement on the meeting posted on the Kremlin’s website whether that particular topic was discussed and to what extent.

The Kremlin said earlier that “the heads of state will discuss the possibility of Russian participation in the construction of the first nuclear power plant in the Kingdom of Jordan, as well as infrastructural development and mining.”

Jordan first announced plans to build its own nuclear capacity and exploit the country’s uranium resources in 2008. Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom is on a short list of potential contractors for the NPP project.

The Fukushima disaster led to a clear commitment from the Jordanian Atomic Energy Commission that any reactor built must meet current Western standards of safety and would undergo a full safety assessment by an experienced and credible independent safety regulatory body.

In May 2012 the Jordanian Parliament voted to suspend the NPP program and the uranium exploration effort pending the completion of economic feasibility and environmental impact assessments.

Meanwhile, Rosatom provided 12 Jordanian nuclear physicists with scholarships to study in Russia.

Jordan currently relies on fossil fuels, but imports 97 percent of its energy needs from neighboring countries.

“The heads of state also exchanged views on current issues on the international agenda, including the situation in Syria and the Middle East peace process,” the Kremlin said in a statement Tuesday.

Putin praised bilateral trade, and Abdullah II said the countries have a lot of interesting economic projects that may be discussed, adding that military and technological cooperation was developing well.

According to the Russian government, Russian-Jordanian trade grew 22% in 2012 to $426.5 million. Russian exports, mainly oil products, steel and grain, dominate bilateral trade.

Higgs boson mass suggests Universe has finite lifespan

End Of Days News

While scientists are still busy working on the details needed to confirm last year's much celebrated discovery of the Higgs boson, they are already hinting at one of its more far reaching implications.
According to Space.com, the mass of the Higgs boson discovered in July 2012 at the world's largest particle accelerator facility, the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva, may yet spell the doom of our universe.
The discovery of the theoretical Higgs boson or what may yet turn out a real-life version different from the theoretical particle, has allowed scientists to begin extending theoretical research.
Scientists had considered the question of the long term stability of the universe long before the announcement of the discovery of the Higgs boson. But precise calculations require an estimate of the mass of the Higgs to within one percent accuracy, as well as the precise mass of other related subatomic particles.
Lykkens said: "You change any of these parameters to the Standard Model (of particle physics) by a tiny bit and you get a different end of the universe."
According to theoretical physicists, if the Higgs mass were just a few percent different, the picture of the universe's future changes drastically.
But now, based on the indications that the Higgs boson is about 126 billion electron volts, or about 126 times the mass of the proton, scientists are saying that the universe may just be fundamentally unstable, and that it may run into a catastrophic end in the future.
According to Reuters, Joseph Lykken, a theoretical physicist with the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Illinois, who is on the science team at Europe's Large Hadron Collider(LHC), told reporters: "If you use all the physics that we know now and you do what you think is a straightforward calculation, it's bad news."
Lykken, speaking before he formally presented his research work at the American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting ongoing in Boston, said: "It may be that the universe we live in is inherently unstable and at some point billions of years from now it's all going to get wiped out."
Physicists last year announced what they believe is the elusive Higgs boson, Digital Journal reported. The Higgs boson is believed to give matter its mass. According to Digital Journal, Lykken said at the time that the Higgs boson "gets at the center for some physicists, of why the universe is here in the first place." He described the Higgs particle or its field equivalent as "an energy field that spreads out in the whole universe. He explained that particles moving in the Higgs field experience it as a kind of sticky molasses that slows them down and keeps them from moving at the speed of light." According to Lykken, "without the slowing down effect of the Higgs field, particles would travel through space at the speed of light and would, therefore, be unable to bind together to form atoms that make up material objects in the universe."
According to Digital Journal,
"Some experts use the analogy of a snowfield to explain how the Higgs confers mass on particles. The Higgs boson is conceived of as associated with an energy field through which particles travel. The effect of the Higgs field on particles is likened to the effect on persons passing through a 'snowfield' depending on whether they are wearing 'skis, snowshoes or just shoes.'"
Immediately after the media fanfare that accompanied the discovery, the work needed to study the myriad of subatomic phenomena related to the Higgs that will help to sharpen focus on its properties began in earnest and is ongoing. Physicists say if the discovery is confirmed it will help to resolve questions about how the universe came into existence about 13.7 billion years ago and may also give insight into how it will end.
Space.com reports that Christopher Hill, theoretical physicist at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, said: "The mass of the Higgs is related to how stable the vacuum is. It's right along the critical line. That could either be a cosmic coincidence, or it could be that there's some physics that's causing that. That's something new, which we didn't know before."
Reuters reports Lykken said: "This calculation tells you that many tens of billions of years from now, there'll be a catastrophe. A little bubble of what you might think of as an ‘alternative' universe will appear somewhere and then it will expand out and destroy us." He said the castastrophic event would happen at the speed of light, suggesting that the catastrophe itself will take billions of years to unfold, according to Einstein's relativity theory."
But Lykken assures that any observer at any spacetime locality "won't actually see it [that is, the catastrophic end], because it will come at you at the speed of light. So in that sense don't worry."
But really, no one need worry about the catastrophic end of the universe billions of years from now because the Earth itself would have long gone. Physicists estimate that our Sun will run out of nuclear fuel in 4.5 billion years, grow into a red giant, and engulf the Earth in the process

Global Economic Collapse In Process: Billionaires Continue To Dump Stocks, Traders Are Betting Against The Economy, Hedge Funds Preparing For Market Sell-Off, And Now They Start Betting Against Currencies As World Plunges Into Recession

Billionaires Dumping Stocks, Economist Knows Why

Despite the 6.5% stock market rally over the last three months, a handful of billionaires are quietly dumping their American stocks . . . and fast.

Warren Buffett, who has been a cheerleader for U.S. stocks for quite some time, is dumping shares at an alarming rate. He recently complained of “disappointing performance” in dyed-in-the-wool American companies like Johnson & Johnson, Procter & Gamble, and Kraft Foods.

In the latest filing for Buffett’s holding company Berkshire Hathaway, Buffett has been drastically reducing his exposure to stocks that depend on consumer purchasing habits.

Berkshire sold roughly 19 million shares of Johnson & Johnson, and reduced his overall stake in “consumer product stocks” by 21%. Berkshire Hathaway also sold its entire stake in California-based computer parts supplier Intel.

With 70% of the U.S. economy dependent on consumer spending, Buffett’s apparent lack of faith in these companies’ future prospects is worrisome.

Unfortunately Buffett isn’t alone
.
Fellow billionaire John Paulson, who made a fortune betting on the subprime mortgage meltdown, is clearing out of U.S. stocks too. During the second quarter of the year, Paulson’s hedge fund, Paulson & Co., dumped 14 million shares of JPMorgan Chase. The fund also dumped its entire position in discount retailer Family Dollar and consumer-goods maker Sara Lee
….
No investors, let alone billionaires, will want to own stocks with falling profit margins and shrinking dividends. So if that’s why Buffett, Paulson, and Soros are dumping stocks, they have decided to cash out early and leave Main Street investors holding the bag.

DARWIN’S WALKING FISH

End Of Days News

Since the early church, the simple graphic diagram of a fish has always been a symbol that represents Christianity. It is also well known that some followers of Jesus Christ make a public expression of their faith by mounting a fish symbol on their property in order for the world to see.
The most common place where people place the Christian fish symbol is on the bumper of a car. When a person walks by the car or approaches from behind they can immediately recognize the car likely belongs to someone who believes in the Lordship of Jesus Christ and has accepted Him as their personal Savior.

Recently I have noticed that the typical Christian fish symbol has taken on a new appearance. Although the general shape of the fish remains the same, the fish now has a set of legs attached to the main body. As well, the name of Darwin has been set inside instead of Jesus Christ.

Anyone who recognizes the importance of creation to Christianity understands the significance of the Darwinian fish very clearly. Without creation, followed by the fall of man, there would be no need for a Redeemer, Jesus Christ. Creation is the very basis of Christianity. Darwinian evolution is merely a naturalistic mechanistic process that explains God away. If there is a way to explain away God, then man is not accountable and humans are free to make their own rules.

The walking Darwinian fish is a slam against Bible believing Christianity. The creation skeptics who designed it knew exactly what they were doing. They know that if creation can be shown to be credible and evolution a hoax, people will recognize they have been created and their whole outlook on life will change.

There are people who are willing to testify to this fact, including myself. Once brainwashed into believing that Darwinian evolution was true, I rejected the Bible as nothing but legend and mythology. When I came to the realization that evolution was a theory without the substantiating facts, I was suddenly awakened to the fact that I had been part of the great delusion designed to cause people to doubt the reality of the existence of God.

The Bible states that Jesus Christ is our Creator [1]. He created us; and He redeemed us if we will place our trust in Him. Because my life has been transformed by His love and grace, I am troubled when I see His name being ridiculed. The next time you see the Darwinian fish with legs on the bumper of a car, remember what it means. It’s not just a subtle attack against Christianity – it is blasphemy.

I am Roger Oakland. This has been a biblical perspective to help understand the times.

California gun-confiscation program seen as model for nation

End Of Days News

A California law that allows authorities to track down gun owners who lost their legal rights to keep their weapons — and then confiscate those firearms — is being heralded as a model for the nation, according to one media report.

The state, which maintains an Armed Prohibited Persons list, is home to more 19,700 gun owners who aren’t allowed to legally possess their firearms, the state’s attorney general said in an United International Press report. The gun owners, the report continues, were once legal carriers but then lost their rights after committing crimes.

Law enforcement is allowed to track down these weapons and confiscate them — and the program has shown substantial success. In the past five years, during various neighborhood sweeps in unmarked vehicles, authorities have captured an estimated 10,000 weapons, UPI reports.

California is the only state in the nation with such a confiscation law, UPI reports. The program is being studied by other states as a possible model for legislation, UPI adds.

To go after the other 19,700 guns on the list would cost California taxpayers about $50 million, Attorney General Kamala Harris says, according to the UPI.

“This is about prevention,” the attorney general said in the UPI report.
