Rep. Blackburn: $50 Million TSA Uniform Contract ‘Deeply Disturbing’

End Of Days News

blackburn

(CNSNews.com) – Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) said it is “deeply disturbing” that the Transportation Security Administration would seal a $50-million deal for new uniforms just days before the sequester took effect.

“I find it deeply disturbing that as Secretary [Janet] Napolitano is running around scaring people by saying she is going to have to furlough employees because of sequester, that she would also spend $50 million of taxpayer money on new uniforms,” Blackburn said in a statement Wednesday.
“This is a classic failure in leadership,” she said.

“DHS has the flexibility it needs in the sequester to cut waste, fraud, and abuse from its budget,” Blackburn said. “Instead, Secretary Napolitano is making the active decision to furlough personnel and is trying to manufacture a scenario where passengers have to wait in longer lines.”

‘Obama to visit even without new Israeli government’

Israeli official calls reports to the contrary ‘baseless’; ‘we have no scheduling changes,’ says White House spokesman

Israeli and US officials said President Obama would not delay his trip to Israel in the event that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is unable to form a government.

An Israeli Embassy official in Washington on Wednesday described as “baseless” reports in the Israeli media that Obama would delay his trip should Netanyahu fail to meet a March 16 deadline to form a government, a few days before Obama is due to arrive.

The official told JTA that preparations for the trip were continuing apace and there was no sign of a postponement. Obama is due to arrive in Israel on March 20 for his first visit to the country as head of state.

“We have no scheduling changes to announce,” White House spokesman Jay Carney said Monday. “The president is looking forward to, very much, his trip to Israel and the region, and we’re on course planning that trip.”

If Netanyahu fails to assemble a coalition by the deadline, President Shimon Peres will either task another politician with forming a government or call elections. Last week, Channel 10 reported, citing unnamed American sources, that in the event that Netanyahu won’t succeed in efforts to form a coalition, Obama would cancel his visit.

The same report also claimed that the US hoped to see Yesh Atid’s leader, former TV news anchor Yair Lapid, take the post of foreign minister in the next coalition.

Syrian rebels kidnap 20 Filipino UN personnel near Israel border

End Of Days News

Gunmen demand that regime remove all its soldiers from Syrian Golan Heights; accuse Assad, UN of ‘collaboration with Israel’

Syria rebels near the village of Jamla on the Golan Heights have captured a convoy of United Nations vehicles and kidnapped 20 Filipino UN employees, according to a video released by the rebels on Wednesday.

The kidnappers were negotiating with UN forces and demanding that the Syrian regime remove all its troops from the area adjoining the Syrian side of the border with Israel.

The video clip showed a number of gunmen standing alongside the UN vehicles, while their apparent leader announced his demands. Some of the United Nations employees can be seen inside the vehicles.

In a second video, the same rebel spokesman is seen accusing the UN, the Assad regime and Europe of “collaborating with Israel.”

“The Free Syrian army will remain here until we banish Bashar and his oppression,” one rebel is seen saying.

The UN Security Council strongly condemned the kidnapping and demanded the immediate and unconditional release of the peacekeepers.

Russia’s UN Ambassador Vitaly Churkin, the council president, told reporters that armed groups had been threatening the unarmed peacekeepers. He said talks were under way between UN officials and the captors.

UN deputy spokesman Eduardo del Buey said the UN observers were on a regular supply mission when they were stopped near an observation post and detained by some 30 gunmen.

Washington: Hizballah has got hold of chemical weapons

End Of Days News

For the first time in many years, voices in the US administration were criticizing the Israeli defense forces for under-reacting and, in this case, also underestimating the chemical weapons threat emanating from Syria and neglecting to pursue counter-measures. This is what visiting Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak heard when he met US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel at the Pentagon Tuesday, March 5, as the new defense secretary’s first foreign visitor.

debkafile’s military and Washington sources disclose that Barak was berated for “inadequate and cursory” military preparations which failed to take into account that a chemical attack on Israel would make it necessary for the IDF to enter Syria – most likely for an offensive operation coordinated against the common threat with the Turkish and Jordanian armies.
Present at the meeting between Hagel and Barak were also Gen. Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the US Chiefs of Staff and Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren. Our sources add that the conversation ranged over the Syrian crisis with no reference to a nuclear Iran.

From the defense secretary, Barak heard intelligence estimates confirmed for the first time by an American official that Hizballah has been able to procure a quantity of chemical weapons from Syria – a development which Israel’s leaders have vowed to prevent.
The proliferation of chemical weapons to HIzballah and other armed bands on Israel’s borders was apparently in the mind of Russia’s UN ambassador Vitaly Churkin, UN Security Council president for March, when he cautioned Monday that trouble was building up between Israel and Syria.
Read debkafile’s earlier report:
At UN Center in New York, Israeli and Russian delegates separately warned Monday, March 4, of a dangerous situation developing in the area of separation on the Golan captured by Israel in the 1967 war. Syrian troops were forbidden to enter this area under a ceasefire formalized in 1974 between Syria and Israel.

Sequester the Muslim Brotherhood Petition

End Of Days News

On March 1, President Obama signed the Sequester, a budget control act that dramatically affects our nation’s military. We are cutting our carrier force in the all-important Persian Gulf in half, and the Army is planning to cut tens of thousands of American soldiers.
Yet on March 4, Secretary of State John Kerry pledged $250 million in new American taxpayer aid to Egypt’s hostile Muslim Brotherhood-led government, and our government could soon send $1.5 billion more.
In a time of budget cutbacks, we are demanding that the Muslim Brotherhood face the first cuts – before our men and women in uniform.

Petition to Sequester the Muslim Brotherhood

To: President Obama, Secretary of State Kerry, and the U.S. Congress
American taxpayers should not fund Shariah dictatorships under any circumstances, much less when America’s military faces deep budget cuts. All U.S. funding to Egypt should be cut until the Sequester is ended and Egypt demonstrates through its actions – not just its words – that it is our ally, not our enemy.

Eric Holder: Drone strikes against Americans on U.S. soil are legal

End Of Days News

Attorney General Eric Holder can imagine a scenario in which it would be constitutional to carry out a drone strike against an American on American soil, he wrote in a letter to Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky.

“It is possible, I suppose, to imagine an extraordinary circumstance in which it would be necessary and appropriate under the Constitution and applicable laws of the United States for the President to authorize the military to use lethal force within the territory of the United States,” Holder replied in a letter yesterday to Paul’s question about whether Obama “has the power to authorize lethal force, such as a drone strike, against a U.S. citizen on U.S. soil, and without trial.”

Paul condemned the idea. “The U.S. Attorney General’s refusal to rule out the possibility of drone strikes on American citizens and on American soil is more than frightening – it is an affront the Constitutional due process rights of all Americans,” he said in a statement.

Iran orders terrorists: Prepare for war

End Of Days News

revguard

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has ordered all of the Islamic regime’s armed forces to prepare for war, WND learned Tuesday.

According to a source in the Revolutionary Guards intelligence unit, the regime believes Israel is on the verge of an attack, which could then draw America into the conflict.

Hundreds of ballistic missiles are ready to be launched against Israel and U.S. military bases in the region, the source said, and all terror groups that have long been positioned in Europe and America are ready to act should war break out.

While the regime has called last week’s negotiations held in Kazakhstan “a turning point” between Iran and the 5-plus-1 countries – the permanent members of the U.N. Security Council plus Germany – it is stalling for time to complete its nuclear weapons development, at which point it believes Israel and the West will have no choice but to accept a nuclear-armed Iran, the source said. However, regime officials do not believe Israel will wait it out and hence the preparations for war, he added.

WND reported exclusively on Feb. 28 about a warning by the regime’s armed forces deputy chief of staff, Brig. Gen. Masoud Jazayeri, that al-Qaida operatives will soon attack America and Europe, even as a second terror team sent by the Islamic regime is about to enter the U.S.

The deputy chief of the Revolutionary Guards, Gen. Hossein Salami, recently warned that the regime’s ballistic missiles could devastate the enemy and reach beyond the region.

“The range of our defensive capability expands thousands of kilometers beyond our borders,” he said.
Also recently, Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi talked of the use of unmanned aerial vehicles armed with explosives to be used against the enemy.

With two of its closest allies out of the picture – Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez dead and Syrian President Bashar Assad fighting for his life – Iran fears Israel and the West could launch a war not only to stop its nuclear program but also effect regime change, knowing full well that millions of Iranians who are suffering under its policies would join in to topple their government, the source said.

Regime officials have been talking of an imminent coming of the last messiah, advising loyalists to prepare the conditions for such an event. Shiites believe the 12th Imam, Mahdi, will descend to Earth at the time of Armageddon.

Iran Prepares For War And Prepares Conditions For The Mahdi's Arrival

End Of Days News

In a little-noticed exchange Tuesday at the Senate Armed Services Committee, a top US general said he had no doubt Israel would attack Iran if the Islamic Republic reached a critical point in its nuclear weapons drive. Furthermore, said General James Mattis, Israel could so without the assistance of the United States.
Mattis, who is retiring this month as head of the US army’s Central Command, which includes the Middle East and North Africa, was responding to questions from Sen. Lindsey Graham, who asked him whether he believed Israel would strike at Iran if the regime “reached a critical point in terms of nuclear capability.”
Responded Mattis: “The Israelis have said so; I take them at their word.”
Graham followed up by asking whether Israel would need US assistance to carry out such an attack. Said Mattis, “They could conduct a strike without our help.”

It looks like the Obama administration is making sure ordinary Americans feel the pain of its loss in the sequester battle.

An email appears to direct an official to make cuts as devastating as the administration warned they would be.

The Washington Times obtained an email sent Monday by Charles Brown, an official with the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service office in Raleigh, N.C.

The email asked “if there was any latitude” in spreading the sequester cuts across the region and lessening the impacts on fish inspections.

Officials in Washington replied that whatever he does, he needs to make sure he doesn’t contradict “what we said the impact would be.”

The reply explained: “We have gone on record with a notification to Congress and whoever else that ‘APHIS would eliminate assistance to producers in 24 states in managing wildlife damage to the aquaculture industry, unless they provide funding to cover the costs.’ So it is our opinion that however you manage that reduction, you need to make sure you are not contradicting what we said the impact would be.”

Before sequestration went into effect Friday, the administration predicted it would be a catastrophe.

As WND reported, the public was warned the $85 billion in spending cuts would include the loss of police officers, firefighters, teachers, soldiers, air control towers and shipyards.

Obama 'hates' Netanyahu

End Of Days News

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has just two weeks left to forge a new coalition government, but the Obama administration is working feverishly to prevent him from succeeding and force him from office, according to Middle East expert Dr. Michael Evans.

Evans is the author of numerous books about the various crises in the Middle East, including “Atomic Iran: Countdown to Armageddon” and the book he wrote with WND’s Jerome Corsi, “Showdown with Nuclear Iran.” He told WND it’s very clear why Netanyahu hasn’t put a new government together.

“The biggest stumbling block is the Big O, Mr. Obama. Mr. Obama’s got his team over there. They’ve been over there a couple weeks, and they’re meeting with the opposition leaders,” Evans said. “This is fairly existential. Obama doesn’t dislike Netanyahu. He hates him. He hates him.

Netanyahu has been able to succeed against Obama. How did he do it? He went directly to the House of Representatives and got 18 standing ovations. He went to the U.S. media. But now he’s come to power weakened. Obama’s come into power strengthened.”

Evans said the argument made by Obama emissaries to Israeli lawmakers is that Netanyahu won’t last much longer in power so Israelis would be smart to go with a new leader now so as to forge a better working relationship with the U.S. Evans said that’s just a smokescreen.

“Obama’s people don’t want Netanyahu back in office. Obama’s people want a divided Jerusalem. They want a Palestinian state. They want Judea and Samaria settlements to stop, etc., etc.,” he said.

“Anything they can do to weaken Netanyahu, they’re doing and they’re succeeding at it.”

While Obama’s efforts are working for the moment, Evans believes Netanyahu will cobble together a government in the coming days, but not as strong of one as he would like.

“I think ultimately Bibi’s going to put his cabinet together. It won’t be strong. He wants it to have a broad coalition of maybe 75-80 out of 120 (seats in the Israeli Knesset). I don’t think he’s going to get that. I think he’s probably going to get something in the high fifties or, maximum, in the low sixties,” Evans said. “It’s possible that within a year or two, former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert will run again and try to defeat him.”

If Netanyahu cannot build a coalition government within the next two weeks, Israeli President Shimon Peres will invite second-place finisher Yair Lapid to forge a group that would make him the new prime minister. If he also fails, new elections would be called.

“I think it’s very likely that Netanyahu will be able to put a coalition together, but here’s the problem: Right now, to put a coalition together, he’s going to have to compromise on his core values. What he compromises to gain he will ultimately lose,” said Evans, noting that Netanyahu will feel pressured by the U.S. to make concessions toward Palestinian statehood and those concessions will mean the crumbling of the coalition.

But Netanyahu will also feel pressure to accommodate Obama on statehood because of the specter of diminished U.S. foreign aid to Israel. Evans said Obama will use the current sequestration fight and other looming fiscal debates to force Netanyahu’s hand by threatening air defense assistance and other vital programs.

“It’s an existential dilemma for the prime minister. Any direction he goes, he falls on his own sword,” Evans said.

According to Evans, Obama has already made it clear that he views Israel as the problem when it comes to the Mideast crisis.

Abney told the Weekly Standard that he was just reminding employees that Obama is their boss.

The issue of free speech rights in the military is problematic. The Marine Corps gave Sgt. Gary Stein an “other than honorable” discharge for misconduct after he posted on Facebook: “Screw Obama. I will not follow all orders from him.”

Stein said he meant he wouldn’t follow unlawful orders from the president and that his comments were protected by the First Amendment.

He testified that his comment was part of a discussion about letting U.S. troops be put on trial for the Quran burnings in Afghanistan.

Stein explained he was saying he would not follow orders if they included detaining U.S. citizens, disarming them or otherwise violating the Constitution.

He filed a preliminary injunction in federal court in Southern California, but Judge Marilyn Huff denied the request.

In April 2012, WND spoke with Gary Kreep, who at the time was executive director of the United States Justice Foundation, which defended Stein.

Among the other problems, said Kreep, was the fact that one of the prosecution witnesses had “obscene political comments” on his own Facebook page, yet he had not been disciplined.

Kreep added that a Marine officer who reportedly was to be a neutral adviser at a disciplinary hearing also took on the role of the prosecution.

The hearing also rejected a statement from Brig. Gen. David Brahms, a Marine for over 50 years, with 49 of them as a lawyer.

Brahms said in a written statement: “I do not believe that … the behavior in question violates the cited UCMJ provision.”

The statement also noted that Department of Defense directive 1344.10, which Stein is accused of violating, is difficult to understand.

“My reading of it indicates it is confusing and quite unhelpful. It is also inherently contradictory,” Brahms said. “If I cannot understand 1344.10 as a 74-year-old retired brigadier general and staff judge advocate to the Commandant of the Marines, there is little hope that a sergeant would understand.”

Brahms also challenged the prosecution’s position that Stein represented the Marine Corps with his postings.

‘Nightmare’ bacteria spreading in U.S. hospitals, nursing homes: CDC

End Of Days News

March 6, 2013 HEALTHA “nightmare” bacteria that is resistant to powerful antibiotics and kills half of those it infects has surfaced in nearly 200 U.S. hospitals and nursing homes, federal health officials reported Tuesday. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said 4 percent of U.S. hospitals and 18 percent of nursing homes had treated at least one patient with the bacteria, called Carbapenem-Resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE), within the first six months of 2012. “CRE are nightmare bacteria. Our strongest antibiotics don’t work and patients are left with potentially untreatable infections,” CDC Director Dr. Thomas Frieden said in a news release. “Doctors, hospital leaders and public health [officials] must work together now to implement the CDC’s ‘detect and protect’ strategy and stop these infections from spreading. The good news,” Frieden added at an afternoon teleconference, “is we now have an opportunity to prevent its further spread.” But, he continued, “We only have a limited window of opportunity to stop this infection from spreading to the community and spreading to more organisms.” CRE are in a family of more than 70 bacteria called enterobacteriaceae, including Klebsiella pneumoniae and E. coli, that normally live in the digestive system. In recent years, some of these bacteria have become resistant to last-resort antibiotics known as carbapenems. Although CRE bacteria are not yet found nationwide, they have increased fourfold within the United States in the past decade, with most cases reported in the Northeast. Health officials said they’re concerned about the rapid spread of the bacteria, which can endanger the lives of patients and healthy people. For example, in the last 10 years, the CDC tracked one CRE from one health-care facility to similar facilities in 42 states. One type of CRE, a resistant form of Klebsiella pneumoniae, has increased sevenfold in the past decade, according to the CDC’s March 5 Vital Signs report. “To see bacteria that are resistant is worrisome, because this group of bacteria is very common,” said Dr. Marc Siegel, clinical associate professor of medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center in New York City. Most CRE infections to date have been in patients who had prolonged stays in hospitals, long-term facilities and nursing homes, the report said. The bacteria kill up to half the patients whose bloodstream gets infected and are easily spread from patient to patient on the hands of health-care workers, the CDC said. Moreover, CRE bacteria can transfer their antibiotic resistance to other bacteria of the same type. This problem is the result of the overuse of antibiotics, Siegel said. “The more you use an antibiotic, the more resistance is going to emerge,” he said. “This is an indictment of the overuse of this class of antibiotic.” What’s needed are new antibiotics, Siegel said, adding that pharmaceutical companies lack the financial motivation to develop them right now. “Eventually, there will be enough resistance so drug companies will have a financial incentive. In the meantime, lives can be lost,” he said. -MSN

God makes a way for his people! No Locusts Allowed to Plague Israel

A swarm of one million locusts that was headed north from the southern border of Israel has been stopped dead in its tracks by the Ministry of Agriculture -- but first, some of Israel's residents have made sure to gather sackfuls of what they know can be a tasty kosher treat.

The swarm, a small group that broke off from a massive plague that struck neighboring Egypt, crossed the border into the country from Sinai, reaching the Ramat HaNegev region two days ago.

Israel’s Agriculture Ministry immediately began spraying pesticide both from the air and at the ground level, starting at dawn on Wednesday. The ministry hoped to prevent further losses to farmers by the locusts. Israel has already sustained hundreds of thousands of shekels damage to potato farms in its southern regions.

'Large release’ of methane off Los Angeles coast: gas could be from shift in tectonic plates

End Of Days News

March 6, 2013CALIFORNIA - Authorities say a foul odor that spurred calls to fire departments throughout the city on Sunday is possibly the result of the large release of methane in the Santa Monica Bay. Santa Monica Fire said in a department statement that they believe the strong odor was caused by a naturally occurring methane leak below the ocean floor. “This morning there was a large release of natural ocean floor methane released in the Santa Monica Bay,” the statement said. Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the Los Angeles City Fire Department, said the odor was noted inland from the Santa Monica Bay. Santa Monica fire haz-mat crews detected rather unusual concentrations of odorless methane gas in the air that they believed to be coming from either a patch of pungent algae, or a sulfurous gas-laced methane bubble, said a dispatcher. That may night be the case; however. Sam Atwood, a spokesman for the Air Quality Management District (AQMD), said his agency has not confirmed the Santa Monica Fire Department’s theory. Authorities said that recent changes in water temperature may have caused plankton and algae beds to bloom, releasing methane just below the surface. The gas also might have been produced by a geologic event, such as a shift in tectonic plates. Officials believe either a pocket of stinky algae, or a bubble of methane laced with sulfurous gas, surfaced in the ocean. -ENE News
