Netanyahu: If Israel withdraws, Iran will move in

 

Without closing the door on the possibility of future negotiations, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday reiterated his oft-stated stance that, under the current circumstances, Israel could not make peace with the Palestinians. In a pre-election interview with Channel 2 News, Netanyahu said that if Israel were to pull out of the West Bank, it would fall into the hands of the country’s enemies.

“In the Middle East, the real Middle East, any territory that we evacuate will be captured by Iran,” the prime minister said. “The stronger we are, the more we will be able to guarantee our future and make peace with our neighbors.”

In a reference to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, he added: “I’ll make peace if my interlocutor is someone who doesn’t embrace Hamas and doesn’t greet with plaudits the people who rained rockets on the country.”

The PA president last week met with the political leader of Hamas in the latest attempt at reconciliation with the rival Islamist faction.

Still, Netanyahu said, “if Abbas is willing to negotiate without preconditions, he’ll find me at the other end of the table.”

Asked about Iran, and specifically about whether there was any daylight between the respective strategies of Israel and the US vis-à-vis the specter of an atomic bomb in the hands of the ayatollahs, Netanyahu said: “I sincerely hope that internationally imposed sanctions, which are a large part of the deterrence, will continue. President Obama has said that Israel must always have the ability to defend itself, by itself.”

The prime minister reiterated previous evocations of World War II, and especially the Holocaust, as a historical precedent that should figure in international policy on Iran.

“I don’t want to be in the same situation that the Jewish people were in 70 years ago,” he said. “Then, we had to beg for protection. We will have the ability to defend ourselves from any threat, and that’s why I’m proud of the manner in which we’ve bolstered our [military] might.”

Netanyahu dismissed suggestions that Israel’s 2012 budget deficit, which was recently revealed to have been twice as large as the goal, would force the next government to levy heavier taxes on the population after the January 22 elections. Netanyahu’s Likud-Beytenu list is widely touted as a shoo-in for largest party and coalition-maker.

“It doesn’t seem to me that we’ll have to do that, because we took it all into account,” he said, and went on to speculate regarding possible sources of increased government revenue that could obviate the need to raise the tax burden. “Maybe the markets will recover and there’ll be an increase in exports. The deficit, percentage-wise, was larger in 2009, so we cut down on many expenses. That didn’t keep us from instating free education from age 3, free dental care, and a rise in the minimum wage.”

In fact, Netanyahu pledged, 2013 would see an increase in government expenditure.

“We have to think about what we raise more and what we raise to a lesser extent,” he said. “In order to build up our economy, we created jobs, so that the unemployment rate in Israel is now among the lowest in the West. I don’t want to raise taxes; it goes against my natural inclination, and I’ll do whatever I can to avoid it.”

Israel to reconstruct King Herod’s tomb

 

The glory of King Herod, the Judean king famous for renovating the Temple Mount and building Masada, will rise again — or at least his tomb will — Israel announced Monday. As part of a new plan, a replica of his tomb at Herodium, situated outside the West Bank city of Bethlehem, will tower to 83 feet and will be visible from Jerusalem.

Herodium, an impressive feat of ancient engineering, is a conical artificial mound built between 23 and 15 BCE that housed a fortified royal palace and tomb. Its walls rose over 200 feet high and it contained elegant courtyards and baths. It was the only one of Herod’s many famed construction projects that bore his name, and was destroyed in 70 CE during the Great Revolt against Rome.

Reconstruction of Herod’s Tomb, a plan three years in the making, is part of a larger government plan to refurbish biblical and national heritage sites. Cabinet Secretary Zvi Hauser announced the $50,000 plan to reconstruct Herodium on Monday.

The national reconstruction initiative includes some 300 projects from various stages in history, including the biblical and Second Temple periods. Over 100 have already been completed, including Tel Aviv’s Independence Hall, and Jerusalem’s Montefiore Windmill in Yemin Moshe – at an estimated cost of $188 million, half of which was funded by private donors. 

The Prime Minister’s Office will hold hearings in March for the public to voice opposition to the Herodium project in March, Ynet reported.

Hebrew University archaeology professor Ehud Netzer ascertained Herodium to be the biblical king’s burial site in 2007, and fell to his death there in 2010.

Aside from being a ruthless, paranoid despot, King Herod is remembered for ordering the renovation of the Temple Mount, and the construction of massive fortifications around Jerusalem, the palaces at Masada, the port at Caesarea, and the monumental edifice atop the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron.

Saddleback Church Senior Pastor Rick Warren, making an appearance on the OWN network's "rah's Lifeclass," assigned a "homework assignment" to the audience by telling them to open up the Bible and start reading the Book of John.

"You are a product of your past, but you are not a prisoner of your past. It has influence over you, but it's just one of the cards," Warren said on the episode that was aired on Jan. 13, adding that reading the Book of John can help people come to that realization.

While promoting the 10th anniversary of his best-selling non-fiction book, The Purpose Driven Life, Warren created an analogy between life and the card game of poker.

"The cards we are dealt are the things we don't have control over. I didn't choose where I was born, when I was born, I didn't choose my gender, my parents, my race, my natural abilities, my natural weaknesses, but a wise player can even play what seems to be a weak hand, and win the game. There are ways to take what you are given and make the most out of it," Warren continued.

Winfrey noted that many people spend their time complaining why they weren't given a different hand in life, and Warren added that people need to accept the life they are given because each and every person is unique.

Going deeper into the poker analogy, Warren identified the first card as the bodies people are given and the chemistry that makes up their physicality.

In a later "Oprah's Lifeclass" segment, a woman from the audience, Portia, asked Warren how she can learn to love herself despite her physical flaws.

The evangelical Christian pastor responded by using as an example a pair of blue jeans he bought recently on which he found a tagline that read: "These jeans are intentionally flawed to make them unique" – which Warren said can be used to apply to people as well, in terms of God's grand design.

"The issue here is the myth that 'being beautiful will make me happy.' I live in Southern California. There are many pretty people there who are miserable. So it is not 'beauty equals happiness.' Happiness is a choice. Sometimes you have to realize that your own self-rejection is turning people away," he suggested.

Addressing Portia directly, Warren added amid a chorus of applause from the audience: "You don't want friends who only like you for your looks. And you don't want a husband that only loves you for your looks." He also reminded viewers that "our looks aren't going to stay."

The other two cards in life's game of poker were then identified as connections with others, and circumstances in life. When it came to the fourth card, consciousness, Warren explained:

"Your consciousness is the story you tell yourself," The pastor then pointed to the Bible verse Proverbs 23:7 that reads: "As a man thinks in his heart, so he is."

"All of us have things we want to change in our lives. If you want to change the way you act, your start back with your thoughts. If I'm acting depressed, it's because I feel depressed. You can't change a feeling – but you can change a thought," Warren continued.

The Saddleback pastor then shared some advice for dealing with negative thinking and bad habits, saying that the key is not to resist temptation, but to replace it. "Not to resist, but to refocus. You have to renew your consciousness.

If you want to break a focus, you need to refocus."
 
Warren concluded that people have a choice to listen to God, or to the world.

"The world tells you all kinds of stuff. It says that you're not competent, you're ugly, you don't matter, you're worthless – don't listen to it. God says you're valuable, you're capable, you're forgivable, you're usable. You listen to the right thing, not the wrong thing."

After the final card was revealed as the choices people make in life, Winfrey surmised: "My hope for myself, my friends and all of you is that we become more conscious, more aware of our meaning and purpose on this Earth, and aware that transformation doesn't happen unless you are willing. It is a choice – that's the fifth card, and only you have the power to change direction of your life."

Christians should not look to Obama to defend their cause, because his support for Islamist power "drowns out the voices of the persecuted."

 

Writing in the monthly conservative Townhall Magazine, Michael Youssef has asked why President Obama, a self-proclaimed Christian, has failed to defend the cause of the harassed and persecuted Christians around the world.

Dr. Michael Youssef, an Egyptian-born U.S. citizen who has authored 27 books including 'Blindsided: The Radical Islamic Conquest,' examines Obama's dealings with Egypt over the past two years.

In his article, Youssef suggests a number of factors that could explain Obama's position regarding Christians around the world. He says that on the outbreak of the January 2011 uprising, Obama urged Mubarak to step down. In fact, writes Youssef, Mubarak was a secular and capitalist dictator and his regime was corrupt for sure. However even after Mubarak's departure, the situation has not changed and corruption is still present under what Youssef calls "the Islamic dictator who replaced Mubarak."

The presidential elections (May 2012) ended by a narrow victory for Mohamed Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood candidate. Even though the presidential elections were allegedly marred by fraud and Christians reportedly prevented from voting, Youssef says that the White House and the U.S. State Department were quick to "embrace Morsi as the victor."

The reason being that Obama and his staff were of the strong opinion that an Islamist president in power in by far the most significant country in the Arab Middle East would "satisfy hard-line Islamists and neutralize would-be terrorists."

Yet, Youssef says neither of these assumptions has materialized.

Youssef writes that even when Morsi gave himself sweeping powers and declared himself to be "the supreme ruler" the White House reacted softly, saying that it was simply concerned and made a short call for Egyptians to work out their "internal" problems.

Youssef has therefore concluded that Obama has no problem in dealing with "dictatorships," as long as it's "Islamic and not capitalist."

In addition, Youssef reveals that Rashid Khalidi, a Hamas supporter and former PLO advisor, is an "old Chicago friend of Mr. Obama's."

According to Youssef, Obama had also maintained a relationship with the late Edward Said, who served as a member of the Palestine National Council and worked with late Yasser Arafat, the PLO leader.

In the writer's mind there is no doubt that such relationships have had some kind of influence on Obama's position.

Youssef also alleges that Hamas, which is a branch of the Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt, have moved its headquarters from Damascus to Cairo since Morsi's rise to power.

In view of these explanations, Youssef writes that Christians should not look to Obama to defend their cause, because his support for Islamist power "drowns out the voices of the persecuted."

Another proof, he writes, is the way the White House reacted to the bloody clashes that followed Morsi's constitutional decree on Nov 22, 2012, and during which the Islamist militia killed a number of protestors and injured hundreds more.

The only comment on the event came from Jay Carney, the White House spokesperson who said, "We call for calm and for all parties to work together to resolve their differences peacefully."

For the Egyptian born writer, the Christians who are being persecuted, harassed, displaced, kidnapped, dispossessed and killed in Egypt, Syria, Pakistan or in Nigeria have no "advocate" in the White House.

Michael Savage: Don't trust feds on flu shot

Asking listeners to put aside his political orientation for a moment, talk-radio host Michael Savage questioned the federal government’s recommendation that citizens get a flu shot.

“Did Harry Reid take a flu shot? Did Barack Obama take a flu shot? Did Barack Obama’s lovely family take a flu shot? Did Joe Biden take a flu shot?” Savage asked.

“Which of the mandarins took the flu shot?”

He explained that he was talking specifically about vaccines and was not advocating the avoidance of all pharmaceuticals.
 
Known for his many books on herbal medicines, Savage acknowledged he has benefited from “an awful lot of life-saving regular medicines.”

“The Flu vaccine?” he asked. “No, I wouldn’t take it.”

Savage noted “not everything your government tells you is true.”
 
“So it’s good to have a cynic in radio who questions authority,” he said.

Savage argued that Centers for Disease Control authorities have to guess what the vaccine should be made of.

“So they choose five strains out of 250-plus strains of Influenza A, and if they don’t choose the right one, you’re going to get sick,” he said.

“So you’re putting your faith in the CDC’s ability to guess the one that might be a pandemic.”

He said that this year, the CDC guessed right on two of the strains and wrong on one of them.

He acknowledged that many people calculate that the risk of a side effect is one in 1 million against the one-in-10,000 risk of being hospitalized or dying.

“But I believe the risks outweigh any benefit,” Savage said.

The vaccine, he pointed out, contains formaldehyde and thimerosal – an organic compound containing mercury, which impairs the neurological and immune systems – along with detergents, antibiotics and allergens that cause infertility.

The CDC itself, he noted, lists some of these ingredients on its own website as harmful, though it insists the amounts in vaccines is negligible.

Someone may well say, Savage acknowledged,” Well, I took the shot and it didn’t kill me.”

But when you’re older, he argued, “and you get ALS or Alzheimer’s disease or MS, or you watch your kid develop seizures, or your kid becomes autistic, God forbid, what are you going to say?”

The relationship between the vaccine and and any one person acquiring these diseases can’t be known for certain, he said, “But why increase the chances of inducing such illnesses in yourself and your children?”
He argued that when it comes to flu vaccines, his political leanings are not relevant.
Recalling a phrase he said he coined 30 years ago, the “language, borders, culture” talk host said, “Germs don’t discriminate.”

“They don’t know if you’re a good guy or bad guy,” he said. “They don’t care if you’re a conservative or a liberal. They don’t care if you’re funny or mean. They don’t care what your race is., what your sexual orientation is. They don’t care what country you came from.”

Abdullah says Arab Spring should push Israel to restart talks

 

Jordan’s king warned Monday that the failure to revive peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians was adding to regional tensions.

A statement from the royal palace said King Abdullah II told a delegation from the Washington-based American Israel Public Affairs Committee that regional changes tied to the Arab Spring should “drive” the Israeli government to “embrace peace.”

In his talks Monday with the pro-Israel group, the king also called on Israel to stop measures that he said hinder peace efforts, including West Bank settlement construction.

Abdullah urged Israel, the Palestinians and the US to resume peacemaking efforts. He called for direct talks based on a two-state solution, which envisions the establishment of a Palestinian state.

He said it remained the “only formula” to end the 65-year old conflict.

On Sunday, Abdullah said he would host Israeli and Palestinian peace delegates next month in hopes of getting negotiations back on track, Israel Radio reported, quoting the London-based Al-Hayat.

In a separate interview with the French magazine Le Nouvel Observateur, the Jordanian monarch said that with US President Barack Obama’s inauguration coming up on January 21, and the Israeli elections the following day, he saw a “new opportunity to reach an agreement that we cannot afford to miss.”

He referred to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as the “main cause of instability in the Middle East” and emphasized that its solution was a priority for Jordan.

Also on Sunday, the Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the European Union was formulating a new Israeli Palestinian peace plan to be presented in March.

According to the paper, the goal of the EU plan was to bring about the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with its capital in East Jerusalem. The report said the EU intended to set a clear timetable for negotiations between the two sides in 2013.

Israeli sources said the EU would like to use the plan as the basis for a regional discussion, which would include the participation of Egypt, Jordan and the Gulf states. Such a move would force Israel to join a pan-Middle East conference or risk being seen as an obstacle to peace, the report said.

“The Europeans cannot force an agreement on us, but they certainly have the ability to embarrass us,” a senior Israeli diplomat was quoted as saying. “They are formulating a policy of parameters that will set forth the principles of a future peace agreement, and they will put it on the table.”

The Book of Enoch

I have read the Book of Enoch and it is very clear why it was not put into the cannon....Just read the first paragraph.....

The words of the blessing of Enoch, wherewith he blessed the elect and righteous, who will be living in the day of tribulation, when all the wicked and godless are to be removed. And he took up his parable and said --Enoch a righteous man, whose eyes were opened by God, saw the vision of the Holy One in the heavens, which the angels showed me, and from them I heard everything, and from them I understood as I saw, but not for this generation, but for a remote one which is for to come. Concerning the elect I said, and took up my parable concerning them: The Holy Great One will come forth from His dwelling, And the eternal God will tread upon the earth......

I grew up in a strict Assembly of God church, You know the kind where you don't question anything about God?

Well, now as an adult I have had my eyes opened by God, and he is OK with all the questions you want to ask, as long as you ask him! Folks he will answer your questions.

When I discovered that the Bible mentioned that the sons of God had paired themselves with the daughters of man in Genesis and that they had begot children I was going to question EVERYTHING about it, and I wondered why in all my life in church I had never heard of this!

Through my internet search about this I came across the words fallen angels (sons of God that fell from heaven for earthly desires), nephilim (giant offspring of angels and the daughter of men), and Enoch (7 from Adam) Noah's great grandfather. As it would happen I found the Book of Enoch and wondered if reading it would send my soul to blaze in fire forever as the church's preach, but when I started reading it all the blanks were filled in! Not only the blanks in the Bible but the earthly questions like how were the pyramids made and how our technology is what it is today!

I come across many articles or blogs that call this book blasphemy, or the work of the devil, but I believe that they are brainwashed by the man lead church today. I prayed for God to let me know if the Book of Enoch was not of him to give me that feeling when reading it, and folks that book was so insightful and for the first time everything I had been taught from the Bible made sense.

In the Olivet Discourse when the disciples asked Jesus how would they know when the last days are, the FIRST thing in all 3 accounts Jesus said was "DO NOT LET ANY MAN DECEIVE YOU" because he knew we were to be lead of the path of righteousness, and that the church would become followers of man instead of followers of God!

Do not be led away from the truth and simplicity of the gospel by science, persuasive speaking, or persuasive writings by (anyone) IE. rabbis, orators, or philosophers.

We are in danger of deceiving ourselves when we have too high an opinion of human wisdom. High opinions of our own wisdom are nothing but self-flattery, which is the next step to self-deceit.

The way to true wisdom is the willingness to be taught by God. The person who resigns his own understanding, and be willing to receive the instruction of God will have true and everlasting wisdom.

If you lower the opinion of your own knowledge, it will enable you to submit to better information so that you may be informed and improved by the revelation: but proud men conceited of their own wisdom and understanding, will not accept correction or the divine wisdom by God himself, and prefer their own shallow reasoning’s of the revelations.

We must humble ourselves before God to be truly wise or good. God has a perfect knowledge of the thoughts of men, the deepest thoughts of the wisest men, their most secret counsels and purposes: nothing is hidden from him, and he knows them to be vanity.

The thoughts of the wisest men in the world have a great mixture of vanity, weakness and folly in them. Before God their wisest and best thoughts are to the highest degree vanity.

Shouldn’t all this teach us modesty?

We should submit to the wisdom of God, and be thankful for his revelations, be willing to be taught by God, and not be led away by what “human wisdom” teaches the simplicity of Christ, or a regard to his heavenly doctrine.

He who would be wise must learn from God, and not set his own wisdom up in competition with God’s. Too much faith in anything other than God will always lead you astray.

4 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

² Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
 

Now back to Enoch, he was an important man, God took him to heaven in human form like Elijah, then Jesus. He was important enough to mention in the Bible (scriptures are below). In the Book of Jude he does not just mention Enoch he mentions what Enoch PROPHESIED. So you have to ask why you shouldn't read it if its been referred to in the Bible

AsiaNews – “The criminal court of Beni Suef (115 km south of Cairo) has sentenced an entire family to prison for converting to Christianity. Nadia Mohamed Ali and her children Mohab, Maged, Sherif, Amira, Amir, and Nancy Ahmed Mohamed abdel-Wahab will spend 15 years in prison. Seven other people involved in the case were sentenced to five years in prison.

The case of the family of Nadia Ali Mohamed began in 2004 when, after the conversion, she and her children decided to replace their Muslim names on their identity cards with their Christian names and city of residence change. To do this she was aided by seven Registry office employees e. Born Christian, she had changed her religion to marry her husband Mustafa Mohamed Abdel-Wahab. After the man’s death in 1991, Nadia decided to return to her religion of origins and to push her seven children to convert. In 2006, one of the boys was arrested by police in an information center in the city of Beni Suef. Suspicious of the young man from the documents he as carrying, where he had changed its name to Bishoy Malak Abdel-Massih, police agents interrogated him for hours until he confessed his conversion to Christianity as desired by the mother. The judges then decide to stop not only the woman, but all of her children and seven clerks from the registration office, responsible for changing the documents.
An individuals religious faith is listed in Egyptian identity cards. Christians, converted to Islam for various reasons that attempt to return to the religion to which they belong have enormous difficulty in correcting their names on the documents. This leads many people to forge them, risking prison. Pastor Saeed Abedini, a U.S. citizen imprisoned for his Christian faith in his native country Iran, has told his wife in a letter that he is being tortured and might be sentenced to death by hanging.

Mohabat News )- According to CP , In his letter, written from the notorious Evin Prison in Tehran and addressed to his wife Naghmeh, the 32-year-old pastor said he was uncertain about his fate.

"This is the process in my life today: one day I am told I will be freed and allowed to see my kids on Christmas (which was a lie) and the next day I am told I will hang for my faith in Jesus," Abedini wrote. "One day there are intense pains after beatings in interrogations, the next day they are nice to you and offer you candy."

However, the pastor sees God's hand in the midst of persecution. "I always wanted God to make me a godly man. I did not realize that in order to become a godly man we need to become like steel under pressure. It is a hard process of warm and cold to make steel," he said, referring to the mixed responses he is receiving in prison. "These hot and colds only make you a man of steel for moving forward in expanding His Kingdom."

Abedini's letter, which has been posted on the website of Assemblies of God USA, also speaks about torture.

"When for 120 days you are asleep in a room with one big light that is constantly lit and does not separate day or night and when you can only see true sunlight for a few minutes a week, that's when you are becoming His Workmanship and you can be a vessel in bringing His Kingdom in a dark place and you are able to share the Gospel of Peace and Life to the dying world," wrote the pastor "in chains for our Lord Jesus Christ." "And this is where you learn you can love your enemies with all of your heart."

The American Center for Law and Justice, which is representing Abedini's family in the U.S., has also said the pastor's life is "in grave danger," as he is facing one of Iran's notorious "hanging judges," Pir-Abassi, known for issuing death sentences.

"And now facing one of Iran's most notorious judges, Pastor Saeed is in a real sense an American abandoned in Iran. The U.S. State Department has done very little to help this U.S. citizen," ACLJ Executive Director Jordan Sekulow said in a report shared with The Christian Post. "When you read Pastor Saeed's own words, you understand that Iran has absolutely no regard for human rights and religious freedom."

Abedini's case has been transferred to Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, and he is now in the hands of Judge Pir-Abassi, who was named in 2011 by the European Union as an individual subject to sanctions for human rights violations. The judge has reportedly presided over a number of cases against human rights activists, often handing down long prison sentences and even several death penalties.

Despite the hardships he is facing, Abedini remains strong in his faith.

"Saeed's letter is nothing short of a modern-day Pauline epistle," AG General Superintendent George O. Wood said on the church's website. "As I read his letter through several times, I could only marvel at how God's faithfulness transcends time as the same Holy Spirit that was with Paul in his times of desperation is fully evident in the words of our brother Saeed."

Wood said he is amazed to find how a letter from an imprisoned pastor "inspires and ministers to me when he – it would seem – is the one who needs our prayers."

"I encourage believers to allow this letter to inspire them to greater things, to pass it on to friends and to continue to uplift Saeed, Naghmeh and their two young children to God in prayer," Wood added.

Abedini grew up in Iran, before converting to Christianity at the age of 20, and marrying an American woman in 2002, which helped him gain U.S. citizenship. The pastor has traveled with his family back and forth between Iran and the U.S. several times in the past few years to meet his family and for Christian work.

During one such trip in 2009, Abedini was detained by Iranian officials and interrogated for his conversion. While he was released with a warning against engaging in any more underground church activities, he was once again arrested last July while working on a non-sectarian orphanage project.

Abedini was arrested for "his previous work as a Christian leader in Iran," according to the ACLJ.

This is so sad! Doctors euthanize deaf Belgian identical twins who could not bear to go blind

 

Identical twins have been killed by Belgian doctors in a unique case under the country’s euthanasia laws.
The 45-year-old brothers from the Antwerp region were born deaf and sought euthanasia after finding out that they would soon go blind. They told doctors that they were unable to bear the thought of not being able to see each other again.
The twins, who have not been named but have been pictured on Belgian television, had spent their entire lives together, sharing a flat and working as cobblers.
Belgium’s Het Laatste Nieuws newspaper reported on the weekend that doctors at Brussels University Hospital in Jette “euthanized” the two men by lethal injection on Dec. 14.

A Houston man was robbed at gunpoint as he made his way to his car after leaving a bar on Thursday. But in addition to the man’s wallet and phone, the robber ended up with bullet wounds and bite marks from a German Shepherd, thanks to a pair of quick-thinking good Samaritans.

Police say the armed thug was canvassing a local neighborhood when he thought he had found an easy mark. The victim, Kevin Dorsey, told KHOU that he hadn’t even closed his car door before a man, dressed in all black and wearing a ski mask, put a gun to his chest and demanded his wallet, cell phone and car keys.

Dorsey took off on foot after being robbed, prompting two men in a Mercedes to ask him what had happened.

“As soon as they pass me, they see the guy has a gun to me,” Dorsey told KPRC. “They stopped right there. The guys in the gray Mercedes asked me, ‘Did you just get jacked?’ I said yes.”

The two unidentified vigilantes went after the suspect and reportedly exchanged fire with the criminal. The good guys eventually won the gun fight and wounded the thief.

In a twist of irony, the robber jumped a fence after being shot in an attempt to escape — only to find a German Shepherd waiting for him on the other side. The dog attacked him and prevented him from escaping before police arrived.

“I don’t own a gun. I’m totally at the mercy of my saviors. They obviously sent two angels to help me. These people protected me when I couldn’t protect myself.”

The robbery suspect, later identified by police as Christopher Hutchins, was being treated at Ben Taub Hospital for a gunshot to his abdomen. He is expected to recover.

It’s unclear whether the two men who came to Dorsey’s rescue were concealed carry permit holders, however, reports do not indicate that police took any action against the men. In Texas, gun owners can carry firearms in their car without a concealed carry permit so long as the weapon is not concealed and the owner is not involved in criminal activity, a criminal street gang or otherwise prohibited by law from carrying a weapon.

China Newspaper Says To 'Prepare For The Worst' After Military Confrontation With Japan In The East China Sea

 

After repeatedly flying surveillance aircraft into disputed airspace with Japan, which made Tokyo scramble F-15s in response, China sent fighters of its own on Thursday into the East China Sea.

A Friday press release out of China confirms the incident began when Beijing was flying a Shaanxi Y-8 on a "routine Thursday patrol" over the "oil and gas fields in the East China Sea."

The fact that the aircraft was a Shaanxi Y-8 is interesting in that the Y-8 isn't necessarily any one particular aircraft.

The Diplomat calls the Y-8 a transport plane, and it can be, but the aircraft has more than 30 variants.

The Y-8 performs everything from Mineral Research, to Geophysical Surveying, to Electronic Warfare to Intelligence Gathering and one variant is simply an innocuous but lethal fully loaded gunship, with two heavy cannons and three heavy machine guns.

It's the perfect plane for a game of cat and mouse because if the Y-8 ever received fire from Japan's F-15s, China could simply maintain it was an unarmed transport model carrying troops, or the Y8-F model that carries only livestock.

In the meantime, the plane can perform all manner of sophisticated tests on the seabed floor, while eavesdropping on Japanese communications. China has been flying these planes consistently lately to surveil the contested island chain that's supposed to hold billions in oil and gas reserves.

So, again, on Thursday Japan spotted aircraft in its Air Defense Identification Zone (above the islands) that it believed to be Chinese J-7 interceptors, along with some J-10 fighters whose combat abilities rival that of Western jets. Japan responded with two F-15s scrambled from Naha, Okinawa — just a couple hundred miles away. There are minor variations from either side about who sent what first, but all agree the aircraft met above the islands.

The Chinese planes scattered soon after, but this marked the first time China and Japan flung military assets at one another over the East China Sea island dispute. A line was crossed and staying behind it in the future will only be more difficult.

The U.S. assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Kurt Campbell announced that he will be traveling to Seoul, and Tokyo. What he decides in Tokyo will filter south to Naha and the Japanese unit confronting the Chinese.

An interesting fact about Naha, aside from its proximity to the contested territory, is that while being fairly remote, it is also home to Alfred R. Magleby, a United States Consul General who holds a M.S. in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College. This is appropriate, since the Naha Port (formerly Military) Facility is part of U.S. Forces Japan and the U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Futenma is less than nine miles from where Japan's F-15s scrambled.

It looks like the islands everyone's talking about are a few dots in the middle of nowhere, but all of this is taking place close to the U.S. Consulate and a contingent of several thousand U.S. Marines whose former commanding general told Time in 2010: "All of my Marines on Okinawa are willing to die if it is necessary for the security of Japan."

In the future, when responding to China's fighter deployment, if Japan considers permitting its F-15 pilots to fire tracer bullets as warning shots against Chinese planes, it is now reasonable to assume that U.S. forces at Futenma may have an indirect say in that decision.

Tracer rounds from ground fire

Firing tracers, which usually contain phosphorous or some highly flammable material, sends a line of light through the air like a laser. Tracers are usually loaded in about every tenth round to let gunners know where they're shooting, but in this case they would be fired to show Chinese pilots they're being fired upon.

An editorial in China's state-run Global Times called this possibility, "a step closer to war," warning a military clash is "more likely" while its people need to prepare "for the worst." With a U.S. presence so close at hand to where these Japanese decisions are being made, and tactical practices employed, we can hope for at least a bit of immediate tempering.

The Chinese jets are likely flying from air base Shuimen, built east of the islands in Fujian Province, not too much farther from the islands than Naha, Okinawa. So both sides have assets equally within reach of the islands.

Satellite imagery of the base came to light in 2009, and experts believe it was completed late last year.

The Taipei Times reported in May 2012 that J-10 combat aircraft, Su-30 fighters, and various unmanned drones were arriving at the base.

The Shuimen airbase compliments China's East Fleet that maintains 35 ships in the region, including its newest warship the Type 054, seven submarines, and eight additional landing craft.

Among the subs are four Kilo-class diesel-electric Russian made submarines capable of the most advanced underwater warfare.

All of this located just 236 miles from the contested islands, which have been in dispute between Japan and China for some time. Han-Yi Shaw writes an interesting history of the dispute, for those interested in more background.

While the U.S. takes no official position on who owns the Islands, it would be expected to honor its U.S.-Japan security treaty signed in 1960.

Though this is a formal agreement that the U.S. will aid Japan if it comes under attack, there are few who believe the U.S. would risk a full-blown war with China over a few uninhabited islands, regardless of how much oil and gas lies beneath them.

But with a U.S. presence so closely intertwined in these events, and a contingent of Marines standing by, it seems that whatever happens could involve American input — one way or another.

This situation is always worth watching extremely closely. We know that the prophetic figure known as the antichrist will arise from the revived Roman Empire, once it reaches the 10 kings stage in the progression of events. We also know from Daniel 9:27 that ultimately, the antichrist will 'confirm the covenant' at which point the 7-year tribulation period begins.

At some point on this continuum we would expect the revived Roman Empire to assume a leadership role for the Middle East peace process and indeed we may be seeing the beginnings of this process.

 

 

EU 'To Propose' Peace Plan After Israel Vote

 

The European Union is drawing up a detailed new plan to restart Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, and expects to present it after this month’s Israeli general election, Yediot Aharonot reported Sunday.

Citing diplomatic sources in Jerusalem, Israel’s top-selling daily said the plan was intended to “bring about the establishment of a Palestinian state on the basis of the 1967 lines with east Jerusalem as its capital.”

The plan will include “clear timetables for the completion of the negotiations on all the core issues in the course of 2013.”

The newspaper said the plan is expected to be presented around March, to give time for the formation of a new Israeli government after the general election on January 22.

The newspaper said the plan “apparently will also include a demand to freeze all construction in the settlements.”

The report said the British and French foreign ministries are sponsoring the initiative, which is also backed by Germany and could be adopted by the full EU.

“There’s a lot in the works behind the scenes,” the newspaper quoted high-ranking Israeli political officials as saying.

“The Europeans don’t have the capability to force an agreement on us, but they definitely may embarrass us,” they added.

“It is reasonable to assume that the Palestinians will accept a document of that sort, but Israel will be hard put to do so. That’s going to paint us into a corner.”

The European Union is working on a detailed plan meant to restart Israeli-Palestinian negotiations and establish an independentPalestinian state based on the 1967 borders with east Jerusalem as its capital, Yedioth Ahronoth quoted Israeli diplomatic sources as saying.

The plan will set a clear timetable for a discussion on all core issues over the course of 2013. It will likely be presented in March after a new Israeli government is formed.

 

Efforts are being made to internationalize the plan: The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton is examining the possibility of making the plan an all-European proposal.

Several reports revealed that the plan will also include a basis for a regional Middle Eastern committee with the participation ofEgypt, Jordan and the Gulf states.

Such a committee will marginalize Israel, but a refusal to join it will be perceived as a general rejection of the peace process. The Palestinians have already said they will accept the invitation if issued.

Additionally, European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton was said to be considering the option of adopting the plan as the official European stance. The Europeans have apparently already initiated contact with US President Barack Obama and incoming secretary of state John Kerry regarding the plan as well.

Diplomats cited in the report said that it would be difficult for Obama to oppose the plan, which was said to closely mirror his own stated views on the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
