“France has attacked
Islam. We will strike at the heart of France,” said a leader of an Al
Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) offshoot Monday after Mali
government forces with French air cover made inroads Sunday on
Islamist-held territory in North Mali. Asked where they would strike,
Abou Dardar told AFP by phone: "Everywhere. In Bamako, in Africa and in
Europe." He also promised a statement later Monday on the eight hostages
they are holding in the Sahel region.
