New ‘Preachers of L.A.’ Reality Show to Feature Lavish Lives of Megachurch Prosperity Preachers

A new reality show set to air this fall on the Oxygen Network will put on display the lives of six Los Angeles area megachurch ministers, many of whom live large as prosperity preachers.
Preachers of L.A. was recently announced by the network, which also released a trailer that provides a sneak peak into the broadcast.
“Known for their fiery sermons, community outreach and passionate followings, pastors have become iconic, beloved, and sometimes polarizing figures in modern culture,” Oxygen stated. “Yet, few people have access to these larger-than-life men away from the pulpit. Until now.”
The network advised that the reality show will provide a look at the “human side” of the men, one of whom admits to having a baby with his girlfriend following his divorce from his wife.

The eastern New Mexico town of Santa Rosa will begin the holiday weekend with a white Independence Day.
According to this report from ABQjournal.com, nearly 2 feet of hail fell in parts of the city about 60 miles west of Tucumcari on Interstate 40, some of which was golf ball size and did some damage to roofs, skylights and the like. Photos submitted to AGN Media also show that the hail backed up I-40 for a decent distance.
More from ABQjournal.com: "A National Weather Service meteorologist, who had just spoken with the Guadalupe County emergency manager, said he received no reports of injuries. ... Storms of that type are common in the New Mexico eastern plains, meteorologist Clay Anderson said, and they often can dump a lot of big hail in uninhabited areas"
After the massive hailstorm that caused significant damage in Amarillo, there were collections of hail that looked like snow.
Calif. lawmakers pass K-12 transgender-rights bill

SACRAMENTO -- Transgender students in public schools can participate in school activities and use school facilities that conform to their gender identity under a bill that passed the Senate Wednesday and now heads to the desk of Gov. Jerry Brown.
The bill, AB1266 by Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, D-San Francisco, had the bare majority, passing 21-9 on a partisan vote with Democrats in support.
"There should be certainty that every kid has the chance to go to school and be treated equally and fairly," said state Sen. Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, who presented the bill on the Senate floor. "We know that these particular kids suffer much abuse and bullying and denigration."
Backers of the bill have noted that current California law already prohibits schools from discriminating on the basis of gender identity, but they said many school districts in the state don't comply with that.
The Los Angeles and San Francisco school districts have had such policies in place for many years, ensuring access to restrooms, locker rooms or sports teams that align with the identity of transgender students.
European firms 'could quit US internet providers over NSA scandal'

European businesses are likely to abandon the services of Americaninternet providers because of the National Security Agency surveillance scandal, the European commission has warned.
Neelie Kroes, the commission vice-president who speaks on digital affairs, predicted that providers of cloud services, which allow users to store and access data on remote servers, could suffer significant loss of business if clients fear the security of their material is under threat.
The warning came as it appeared that the Americans and the Europeans were to start investigating alleged breaches of data privacy in the EU as well as US intelligence and espionage practices.
Despite threats from France to delay long-awaited EU-US negotiations on a new transatlantic free trade pact, scheduled to open in Washington on Monday, EU ambassadors in Brussels reached a consensus on Thursday to go ahead with the talks.
They could not yet agree, however, on how to respond to a US offer of parallel talks on the NSA scandal, the Prism and Tempora programmes and issues of more traditional espionage arising from reports of how US agencies bugged and tapped the offices and embassies of the EU and several member states.
Dalia Grybauskaitė, the president of Lithuania, said on Thursday that she was not seeking an apology from the Americans. Lithuania takes over the rotating six-month EU presidency this week.
Israelis warn of terror in Morsi aftermath

Israeli officials expressed concern Thursday that radical Islamists or Jihadists may take advantage of the situation in Egypt to wage terror attacks.
"It is hard to believe the Egyptians will overcome the ever-deepening polarization between the Islamist Egypt and the secular Egypt. Ultimately we have no choice but to find an agreed upon framework for cooperation until they do, we might see violent clashes," an unnamed Israeli government official told Ynetnews.com.
The situation in the Sinai Peninsula worsened under Morsi's rule unnamed Israeli officials said, noting the area has become a haven for terrorists, drug smugglers and other elements seeking to evade the authorities, Arutz Sheva said.
The officials said they doubt the Muslim Brotherhood will accept Morsi's ouster quietly, and may move to the Sinai where they already have allies in the Bedouin population there, and could also receive large number of fighters from the Gaza Strip if needed to boost their ranks, Arutz Sheva said.
With the Egyptian army is trying to restore control in the country's cities during the interim period, the officials cautioned that the situation in the Sinai could break down completely.

The assailants fired rocket-propelled grenades at army checkpoints guarding El Arish airport near the Gaza Strip and Israeli border. CAIRO -Egyptian troops were "on alert" in the Sinai Peninsula, a military spokesman said on Friday, but he denied a report by the state-owned Al-Ahram newspaper that a state of emergency had been declared in Suez and South Sinai provinces.
The newspaper's website said that the raised alert levels were a response to an overnight attack by Islamist gunmen on an airport in the Sinai town of El Arish.
"We were already very prepared in this important strategic region," a military source said. "The announcement is just to assure our soldiers and people that we are ready in Sinai. As for Suez we are always on an alert state there."
The head of the Suez Canal Authority, who oversees the key world trade route, said it was operating normally with no disruption to cargo traffic. Mohab Mameesh said 48 ships had passed through the canal on Friday.

Troops have fired bullets into the crowd of pro-Morsi demonstrators marching on the Republican Guard Headquarters located on the edge of Cairo's Nasr City. 'At least' three have been reported dead.
The stream of bullets followed unconfirmed reports of warning shots being fired into the air as the Islamist crowd gathered on Salah Salem, marching towards the barracks where the deposed President is being held. Three have been reported dead, according to AFP, amid eyewitness accounts of several causalities.
