The pope has advantages in this area that the president does not. He can unite all believers in the One God — something other popes could not or would not do. All popes must be diplomats, since Catholics exist in many different cultures and nations. But past popes had less room to maneuver than Francis has. This pope can condemn the violent minority of Muslims (in the Islamic State, for instance) while cultivating the sophisticated and scholarly Muslims he knows well. As Francis said in his most important papal statement so far, The Joy of the Gospel: “Authentic Islam and the proper reading of the Quran are opposed to every form of violence.” The ability to recognize the better angels of another religion is very useful for recruiting help and alliances with the holy majority of that religion. Those who dismiss large numbers of Muslim believers as “Islamofascists” make enemies of people who would prefer to be our friends. All modern popes have called for peace in the world. But Francis has a special chance to use his religious office to prevent religious war. Any war for religion conflicts with the peaceful traditions of Jews, Catholics, Protestants, Muslims, Mormons and others. Francis has earned a special credibility in reminding us of that important truth. (READ MORE)
In ancient times watchman would mount the city walls in times of stress to survey the scene outside the fortifications. He was situated on a spot from which he could monitor the approaches to the town. If a threat appeared, he would sound a warning and the town would shut its gates and prepare for battle.

Pastor of California Church sponsoring interfaith dialogue with Wiccans teaches tolerance to "concerned citizen": Wiccans covered by God's grace
End Of Days News
The "FALSE PROPHET" has opened up a can of worms!
The pastor of Fairview Community Church has taken a leaf out of Pope Francis' book concerning grace--if God's grace covers everyone, including atheists and non-Christians, it covers Wiccans too. Wicca is a federally recognized religion in America. Its members either practice in groups (covens), or are solitary. It is a nature centered religion that recognizes Deity as both male and female–God and Goddess, and from there Wiccans and Pagans follow their own chosen pantheons, or in the case of this one, simply God and Goddess. Besides being a grossly misunderstood religion–Wiccans and Pagans are often characterized as Satan worshippers who sacrifice animals even though there is no Satan in the Wiccan faith–and animals are considered to be as sacred as humans–the truth is Wiccans believe Satan to be a human created Christian construct and thus, not a part of their religion. Some Wiccans don't like to be called witches, others are proud to reclaim the name from centuries of smear tactics by the Catholic church whose militaristic arm, the Inquisition, burned thousands at the stake for being different, non-Catholic, or who practiced herbalism, or healed people when male physicians could not–a person in Europe could be killed for being a witch for nearly any reason. The European witchcraft hysteria was a disease that was spread to early colonial America and erupted in 1692. Christian magistrates responded to the witchcraft hysteria in Salem, Massachusetts, by sentencing innocent women and a man, some young, some elderly, to be hanged (the man was pressed to death) as witches based on spectral evidence, European methods of witchfinding, and the hearsay and wild accusations of "devout" Christian neighbors. (To experience what this would have been like had you been accused, you can experience it here courtesy of National Geographic).
Because of this negative perception of Wicca, Wiccans as a minority faith in a nation ofChristians who serve in the military had to fight for over ten years to get the right to put their religious symbol, a pentacle, on military gravestones when killed in action. "The Wild Hunt" at Patheos.com explains:
In April of 2007 the Bush Administration agreed to a settlement that paved the way for approval of the Wiccan pentacle to be engraved on government-issued headstones and markers, bringing to an end a campaign that lasted a decade, one that saw casual anti-Pagan demagoguery morph into government policy. Nearly five years after that historicsettlement, the number of grave markers with the pentacle emblem, according to iPad-formatted news magazine The Daily, has risen dramatically.

Pope Francis on Same-Sex Marriage: 'A Move of the Father of Lies;' 'A Total Rejection of God's Law'
End Of Days News
(CNSNews.com) - In 2010, when his native Argentina was considering a proposal to legalize same-sex marriage, Pope Francis I, then archbishop of Buenos Aires, said that the legislation was a total rejection of God's law and an effort by the father of lies to confuse and deceive humanity.
Then-Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio made these observations in a letter to a group of monasteries in Argentina, in which he asked the sisters for their prayers in defeating the same-sex marriage legislation.
A conclave of Roman Catholic cardinals elected Cardinal Bergoglio the new pope on Wednesday, and he took the papal name of Francis.
“In the coming weeks, the Argentine people will face a situation whose outcome can seriously harm the family," then-Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio wrote, according to a July 8, 2010 article in the National Catholic Register.
"At stake is the identity and survival of the family: father, mother and children," said Cardinal Bergoglio. "At stake are the lives of many children who will be discriminated against in advance, and deprived of their human development given by a father and a mother and willed by God. At stake is the total rejection of God’s law engraved in our hearts.”
“Let us not be naive: This is not simply a political struggle, but it is an attempt to destroy God’s plan," said the future pope. "It is not just a bill (a mere instrument) but a ‘move’ of the father of lies who seeks to confuse and deceive the children of God.”

Jorge Mario Bergoglio was first to sign petition demanding justice in AMIA bombing; rabbi calls him a ‘warm and sweet and modest man’
Jorge Mario Bergoglio, the Argentinian cardinal who was elected pope late Wednesday and will take the name Francis I, is said to have a good relationship with Argentinian Jews.
Bergoglio, 76, a Jesuit, was the choice of the College of Cardinals following two days of voting in Vatican City. He is the first pope to come from outside Europe in more than a millennium; reflecting the changing demographics of Catholics, he comes from Latin America.
As archbishop of Buenos Aires, Bergoglio attended Rosh Hashanah services at the Benei Tikva Slijot synagogue in September 2007.
Rabbi David Rosen, the director of interfaith affairs for the American Jewish Committee, told JTA that the new pope is a “warm and sweet and modest man” known in Buenos Aires for doing his own cooking and personally answering his phone.
Pope Francis profile: Argentine cardinal known as humble conservative who preached social justice
End Of Days News
Much hay has been recently made out of Glenn Beck’s ill-advised comments about the term “social justice.” In the first week of March, on his popular radio and television shows, he said, “I beg you, look for the words ’social justice’ or ‘economic justice’ on your church Web site. If you find it, run as fast as you can.
Pope Francis profile: Argentine cardinal known as humble conservative who preached social justice
VATICAN CITY -- Pope Francis is the first ever from the Americas, an austere Jesuit intellectual who modernized Argentina's conservative Catholic church.
Known until Wednesday as Jorge Bergoglio, the 76-year-old is known as a humble man who denied himself the luxuries that previous Buenos Aires cardinals enjoyed. He came close to becoming pope last time, reportedly gaining the second-highest vote total in several rounds of voting before he bowed out of the running in the conclave that elected Pope Benedict XVI.
Groups of supporters waved Argentine flags in St. Peter's Square as Francis, wearing simple white robes, made his first public appearance as pope.
before making a reference to his roots in Latin America, which accounts for about 40 percent of the world's Roman Catholics.
Bergoglio often rode the bus to work, cooked his own meals and regularly visited the slums that ring Argentina's capital. He considers social outreach, rather than doctrinal battles, to be the essential business of the church.
He accused fellow church leaders of hypocrisy and forgetting that Jesus Christ bathed lepers and ate with prostitutes.
"Jesus teaches us another way: Go out. Go out and share your testimony, go out and interact with your brothers, go out and share, go out and ask. Become the Word in body as well as spirit," Bergoglio told Argentina's priests last year.
