The CIA Takes Opposite Sides in Syria and Iraq

End Of Days News

What, really, could be more bizarre than this: as the United States ramps up its aid to Syria’s rag-tag rebels, whose backbone is comprised of radical Islamists and Sunni fundamentalists, some with ties to Al Qaeda, the CIA is busily engaged in combat inside Iraq with the very same radical Islamists and Sunni fundamentalists, some with ties to Al Qaeda.
Yep, that’s right.
We’re backing the same guys in Syria that we’re fighting in Iraq.
Of course, we shouldn’t be involved in Iraq in any way, shape or form, but try telling that to the CIA.According to the Wall Street Journal:
The Central Intelligence Agency is ramping up support to elite Iraqi antiterrorism units to better fight al Qaeda affiliates, amid alarm in Washington about spillover from the civil war in neighboring Syria, according to US officials.
The stepped-up mission expands a covert US presence on the edges of the two-year-old Syrian conflict, at a time of American concerns about the growing power of extremists in the Syrian rebellion.

CAIRO (AP) — Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood sharply criticized an anticipated UN document on combatting violence against women, saying on Wednesday that it was “deceitful,” clashed with Islamic principles and undermined family values.
The text of the document has not been published because negotiations are continuing, regarding how to address sexual violence and rights of women to control their sexuality as well as sexual and reproductive health and rights.
Diplomats and observers tracking the debate are optimistic of agreement before the two-week meeting of the UN Commission on the Status of Women wraps up Friday in New York. One participant said Egypt is seeking to introduce an opt-out clause to allow each country to implement the document according to its own traditions.
According to the Brotherhood, which has emerged as the most powerful political faction in Egypt since the 2011 uprising, the draft under discussion advocates sexual freedoms for women and the right to abortion “under the guise of sexual and reproductive rights.”

The UN peacekeeping force on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights said late Wednesday it would drastically cut back activity, fearing more kidnappings like one last week that saw 21 Filipino blue hats grabbed by rebels.
The United Nations Disengagement Observer Force, which has guarded the demilitarized buffer zone between Israel and Syria since 1974, will stop patrols and shut down a number of observation posts, a senior UN diplomat told Agence France-Presse.
t was reported last week that the peacekeepers have already stopped all night patrols.
A number of countries have begun reassessing sending unarmed peacekeepers to the region, which has seen fighting as part of Syria’s ongoing civil war. Last week, 21 peacekeepers from the force were kidnapped by Syrian rebels, who held them for four days.

DNI James Clapper told the Senate Intelligence Committee that the new weapon was rolled out during a military parade in Pyongyang last April.
“We believe North Korea has already taken initial steps towards fielding this system, although it remains untested,” Clapper said.
The new missile comes amid recent threats by North Korea to launch nuclear missile strikes against the United States.

Senate committee approves assault weapons ban

End Of Days News

The Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday approved a renewed assault-weapons ban, advancing the measure to the Senate floor where it will face intense resistance from Republicans and other gun-rights supporters.

The bill was approved by the committee on a party-line, 10-8 vote. Chief sponsor, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said she knows "the road is uphill" for the legislation, but sought to press her colleagues to consider the bill.

"Are we going to stand with the thousands of police chiefs and law enforcement officers who do support this bill? Are we going to stand with the victims of gun violence?" she said, stressing that the bill does not take "any weapons away from anybody" but would ban future purchases.

Republicans, though, described the legislation -- which comes nearly a decade after the last assault-weapons ban expired -- as an ineffective response to a genuine problem.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., noted that so-called assault weapons are used in a scant percentage of murders every year and said a ban would merely provide a "false sense of safety." He critiqued another measure that would limit the size of magazines.
